Progress in flight tests of hypersonic boundary layer transition

Guohua Tu et al.

Summary: Boundary layer transition is a crucial factor that impacts the flight performance and safety of hypersonic flight vehicles. Model flight tests have been widely conducted to better understand and address transition problems over the past 30 years.

Noise reduction for temperature-sensitive paint measurement contaminated by strong background radiation in a high enthalpy hypersonic tunnel

Di Peng et al.

Summary: This study proposed a solution for reducing background radiation in high enthalpy hypersonic shock tunnels when using time-resolved temperature-sensitive paint (TSP) measurement. Three noise reduction methods were developed and evaluated, with RPCA method showing the best performance in recovering high-quality TSP data for a majority of the test duration.

How does the rarefaction of the air affect hypersonic vehicles

Youda Ye

Summary: This paper discussed the scope, physical concept, and mathematical model for describing the impact of air rarefaction on hypersonic flows, and proposed a new method for computing hypersonic shear flows around vehicles flying at altitudes of 30-100 km. Validation of the new continuum method was also carried out.

A general form of Macheret-Fridman classical impulsive dissociation model for nonequilibrium flows

N. Adhikari et al.

Summary: This study extends the classical impulsive model of Macheret-Fridman to consider the dissociation of heteronuclear molecules, presenting macroscopic rates applicable for computational fluid dynamics. The MF-CFD model's nonequilibrium dissociation rates performed well for important air reactions, showing promise as a standard tool for investigating nonequilibrium flows in CFD.
