Occurrence and Definitions of Intra and Postoperative Complications Related to Laparoscopy in Equids: A Scoping Review

Anna Cerullo et al.

Summary: Laparoscopy is commonly used in equine surgery with various advantages, but it can also lead to complications with significant welfare and economic consequences. However, there is a lack of standardized definitions and classification criteria for intra and postoperative complications, making it difficult to compare complication rates between studies. Therefore, it is important to establish rigorous criteria and conduct more research with high-quality evidence to define and classify complications.

Current Use of Equine Laparoscopy in Urogenital Disorders: A Scoping Review of the Literature from 2000 to 2021

Paola Stratico et al.

Summary: This review evaluates the applications and development of urogenital laparoscopy from 2001 to 2021. The results show that gonadal disorders received the most attention in research, and Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Surgery (HALS) and laparoscopic-assisted surgery were valuable options for more challenging conditions.

A Comparison of Times Taken for the Placement of the First Portal and Complication Rates between the Veress Needle Technique and the Modified Hasson Technique in Canine Ovariectomy Laparoscopic Surgery

Amanda Bianchi et al.

Summary: Laparoscopy is commonly used in veterinary medicine for diagnostic and operative procedures. The creation of a pneumoperitoneum is a critical step in laparoscopy, but can prolong the operation time. Complications in laparoscopic surgery are often associated with the insertion of devices into the abdominal cavity, and two main techniques for creating pneumoperitoneum have been utilized.
