Degradation of a Reactive Orange 16 in textile wastewater treatment using CuO/ZnO nanocomposite as photocatalyst

Chao Luo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the effective photo-electrocatalytic degradation of Reactive Orange 16 (RO16) dye in textile wastewater using CuO/ZnO nanocomposite under UV and sunlight irradiation. The CuO/ZnO nanostructure was successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal technique. The results showed that CuO/ZnO nanocomposite exhibited faster charge transfer and higher charge separation efficiency compared to CuO and ZnO. The dye degradation process was found to be faster under sunlight irradiation than under UV light, which can be attributed to the band gap engineering and interfacial contact between CuO and ZnO nanostructures in the CuO/ZnO nanocomposite. The photocatalytic performance of CuO/ZnO nanocomposite was also tested on actual textile wastewater samples, and it exhibited effective capability in treating RO16 dye.

Maria Cristina Collivignarelli et al.

Summary: The study investigated the performance of photoelectrocatalysis (PEC) on TiO2 in treating various real water samples, showing efficient removal of contaminants in groundwater while only minimal synergistic effects were observed in treating emerging compounds with UV radiation. PEC demonstrated significant improvements in biodegradability in pharmaceutical industrial wastewater and sewage sludge treatment plant effluent, with impressive COD removal in the latter. Additionally, significant energy savings were achieved with PEC compared to UV alone, except in the case of groundwater samples.

An investigation of transition metal doped TiO2 photocatalysts for the enhanced photocatalytic decoloration of methylene blue dye under visible light irradiation

Periyakaruppan Karuppasamy et al.

Summary: The study focused on preparing semiconducting materials like TiO2 and transition metal-doped TiO2 using a sol-gel method and characterizing them through various analyses. Among them, Zn-doped TiO2 showed the best photocatalytic efficiency in decolouring Methylene blue dye under visible light irradiation. Results indicated that Zn-doped TiO2 had a lower band gap, leading to enhanced dye degradation compared to other catalysts. UV-vis spectra and the decolouration percentage of Methylene blue showed the superior photocatalytic activity of Zn-doped TiO2.
