On the photoproduction reactions γd → πNN

William J. Briscoe et al.

Summary: In this review, we focus on providing a theoretical description of incoherent pion photoproduction on the deuteron. We analyze existing data on gamma d -> pi NN, particularly recent data obtained by various collaborations. By applying a procedure that accounts for final-state interactions (FSI), we extract gamma n -> pi N differential cross sections from the deuteron data. The role of FSI and discrepancies between model and experimental results are discussed. We also present improved electromagnetic properties of baryon N* resonances using the extracted differential cross sections. Furthermore, we provide a model description of the cross section data for charged-pion photoproduction reactions near threshold, and extract the E0+ multipole and total cross section for the reaction gamma n -> pi(-)p from gamma d -> pi(-)pp data near threshold.

Coupled-channels analysis of pion and η electroproduction within the Julich-Bonn-Washington model

M. Mai et al.

Summary: In this study, the electroproduction data of pion and eta particles are jointly analyzed for the first time up to a center-of-mass energy of 1.6 GeV. The results provide insights into the determination of resonance amplitudes in the near-threshold region. It is found that some amplitudes can be well determined while others require data over a wider energy range.

Diquark correlations in hadron physics: Origin, impact and evidence

M. Yu Barabanov et al.

Summary: In the past decade, there has been a significant shift in understanding the internal structure of hadrons, with new theoretical techniques and experimental findings suggesting that soft quark+quark (diquark) correlations play a crucial role in hadron physics. These correlations are believed to be a necessary consequence of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and may be critical for the formation of exotic tetra- and penta-quark hadrons.

Insights into the emergence of mass from studies of pion and kaon structure

Craig D. Roberts et al.

Summary: In the standard model of particle physics, there are two mass generating mechanisms: one related to the Higgs boson which is well understood, and the other embedded in quantum chromodynamics responsible for the emergence of hadronic mass, which remains puzzling. Recent progress has been made using theoretical tools like continuum Schwinger function methods and lattice-regularised QCD to understand these mechanisms better and shed light on Nature's Nambu-Goldstone modes. New experimental facilities are expected to contribute greatly in resolving the puzzles of emergent hadronic mass.

Resonant contributions to inclusive nucleon structure functions from exclusive meson electroproduction data

A. N. Hiller Blin et al.

Summary: Nucleon resonance contributions to the inclusive proton F-2 and F-L structure functions are calculated using resonance electroexcitation amplitudes extracted from experimental data. Contributions from isospin-1/2 and -3/2 resonances remain significant in the range of photon virtuality Q(2) less than or similar to 4 GeV2, showing pronounced differences in their Q(2) evolution in different resonance regions. Comparison between structure functions in the resonance region and those calculated from parton distributions provides new quantitative assessments of quark-hadron duality in inclusive electron-proton scattering.

Julich-Bonn-Washington model for pion electroproduction multipoles

M. Mai et al.

Summary: The study analyzes pion electroproduction off the proton in a new framework based on a general parametrization of transition amplitudes, incorporating constraints from gauge invariance and threshold behavior. Large-scale fits were performed, resulting in a set of solutions with chi(2)(dof) = 1.69-1.81, allowing for the assessment of the systematic uncertainty of the approach.
