A phase-field-based lattice Boltzmann model for multiphase flows involving N immiscible incompressible fluids

Xiaolei Yuan et al.

Summary: In this work, an efficient and accurate lattice Boltzmann (LB) model based on phase-field theory is developed to study multiphase flows involving immiscible incompressible fluids. The model adopts a reduction-consistent physical formulation and constructs proper auxiliary source terms to ensure the correct macroscopic equations. The capability of the LB model is demonstrated through numerical examples, and the results show its reduction-consistent property and physical accuracy.

Improved well-balanced free-energy lattice Boltzmann model for two-phase flow with high Reynolds number and large viscosity ratio

Chunhua Zhang et al.

Summary: An improved well-balanced free-energy lattice Boltzmann equation (LBE) model is proposed for two-phase flows with high Reynolds numbers and large viscosity differences. The model introduces a free parameter associated with the shear rate to determine the fluid viscosity. Simulation results demonstrate that the model is capable of capturing discrete equilibrium states and eliminating spurious velocities.

Shaping the equation of state to improve numerical accuracy and stability of the pseudopotential lattice Boltzmann method

Luiz Eduardo Czelusniak et al.

Summary: It has been shown that altering the shape of the metastable and unstable branches of an equation of state can improve the numerical accuracy of liquid and vapor densities in the pseudopotential lattice Boltzmann method. However, this approach reduces stability in nonequilibrium conditions and is unstable for bubbles at low temperatures. This study presents an improved method that remains stable for both equilibrium and nonequilibrium situations, and does not have issues with bubbles. Additionally, the stability of the method is studied in the context of droplet impact on a liquid film.

A thermodynamically consistent pseudo-potential lattice Boltzmann model for multi-component, multiphase, partially miscible mixtures

Cheng Peng et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a thermodynamically consistent multi-component, multiphase pseudo-potential lattice Boltzmann model that allows mass transfer across the phase interfaces and can predict the phase behavior of partially miscible hydrocarbon mixtures accurately. By splitting the total interaction force into individual components and deriving a force split factor associated with the volatility of each component, the model achieves precise thermodynamic consistency in multi-component hydrocarbon mixtures, as described by the iso-fugacity rule.
