Clinical utility of cerebrospinal fluid-derived circular RNAs in lung adenocarcinoma patients with brain metastases

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, we sequenced circRNAs in paired cerebrospinal fluid, plasma, and tumor tissues from lung adenocarcinoma patients with brain metastases. We found that CSF-circRNAs had a lower number of species but higher abundance compared to tumor tissue and plasma. We identified 60 CSF-circRNAs that were associated with shortened overall survival, and five of them were strongly associated with the WNT signaling pathway. Validation by RT-PCR and in vitro experiments supported the potential roles of these five candidate circRNAs in cell proliferation and invasion.

Diagnostic efficacy of circular RNAs as noninvasive, liquid biopsy biomarkers for early detection of gastric cancer

Souvick Roy et al.

Summary: This study developed a non-invasive liquid biopsy method for early detection of gastric cancer by using circular RNAs (circRNAs) as biomarkers. The researchers identified a panel of 8 circRNAs that could reliably distinguish gastric cancer patients from non-disease controls, even in early-stage patients. The decreased expression of circRNAs in serum samples suggested their tumor specificity.
