Radiation Therapy of Lymphatic Fistulae After Vascular Surgery in the Groin

Matthias G. Hautmann et al.

Summary: A total of 191 patients with 206 lymphatic fistulas from a German university hospital were analyzed for the effectiveness of radiation therapy in reducing lymphatic secretion after vascular surgery in the groin. The overall response rate to radiation therapy was 63%, with a median lymphatic secretion decreasing from 150 mL to 60 mL per 24 hours after treatment. No significant difference was found in the success rate between patients starting radiation early (<= 9 days) or late (>10 days) postoperatively.
