Symmetry Classification and Universality in Non-Hermitian Many-Body Quantum Chaos by the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev Model

Antonio M. Garcia-Garcia et al.

Summary: Spectral correlations are a powerful tool to study the dynamics of quantum many-body systems. This study shows that local level statistics of a non-Hermitian q-body Sachdev-Ye-Kitev (nHSYK) model can be well described by random matrix theory, providing evidence of universal features in nonunitary many-body quantum chaos. The study also identifies 19 out of the 38 non-Hermitian universality classes in the nHSYK model.

Traversable wormhole dynamics on a quantum processor

Daniel Jafferis et al.

Summary: The holographic principle suggests that a volume of space can be encoded on a lower-dimensional boundary, with the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model providing a new realization of holography. The experiment conducted on the Google Sycamore processor successfully observed key properties of traversable wormhole physics in the sparsified SYK model, representing a step towards studying quantum gravity in the laboratory. Future developments will require improved hardware scalability and theoretical advancements in higher-dimensional quantum gravity duals and other SYK-like models.

Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev models and beyond: Window into non-Fermi liquids

Debanjan Chowdhury et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model and its relevance to nonFermi liquids in condensed matter physics. The study explores the phase diagrams of models with local electronic correlations, which display SYK physics. It also investigates the connection between the SYK model and theories of sharp Fermi surfaces without quasiparticles. Furthermore, the review provides an overview of the links between the SYK model and quantum gravity.

Spectral form factor in sparse SYK models

Elena Caceres et al.

Summary: We investigate the spectral form factor of the sparse Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model and find that the connected part is dominant at intermediate times. These connected contributions arise from fluctuations around the disconnected geometry, rather than new saddle points. Similar effects have been conjectured in the SYK model, but have been difficult to numerically simulate due to the required value of N.

Near-equilibrium approach to transport in complex Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev models

Cristian Zanoci et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of a one-dimensional complex Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev chain and discover its non-Fermi-liquid behavior and diffusive propagation of energy and charge. By imposing temperature and chemical potential gradients, we explore the thermoelectric transport properties of the system and extract the temperature and chemical potential dependence of the transport coefficients. We also reveal simplified forms of the diffusivity matrix and establish a relationship between diffusion and quantum chaos.

Thermalization of many many-body interacting Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev models

Jan C. Louw et al.

Summary: We investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of complex Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) models in the q -> infinity limit. We find that a single SYK q -> infinity Hamiltonian is a perfect thermalizer for t >= 0, with the local Green's function becoming instantaneously thermal. The quantum state only retains memories of its charge density and energy density at t = 0 for t < 0. This result holds for all quantum states that can be expanded using a 1/q expansion.

SYK wormhole formation in real time

Juan Maldacena et al.

Summary: We investigate the real-time formation of the ground state of two coupled SYK models, finding that the system forms a wormhole through a region with negative specific heat in a time independent of system size N. The dynamics is smooth and appears to follow equilibrium thermodynamic configurations of the microcanonical ensemble. Additionally, we discuss the relationship between the coupled SYK model and the Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity theory with bulk fields.

Sparse Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model, quantum chaos, and gravity duals

Antonio M. Garcia-Garcia et al.

Summary: The study examines a sparse Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model and identifies a minimum connectivity requirement for quantum chaos to occur, indicating the minimum needed for the model to have a quantum gravity dual. It also reveals a relationship between spectral density corrections due to sparsity and corrections in lattice gauge theory.

Phase diagram of the spin-1/2 Yukawa-Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model: Non-Fermi liquid, insulator, and superconductor

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: The study analyzes the phase diagram of the spin-1/2 Yukawa-Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model at finite temperatures and with varying fermion density. It shows that in a model with time-reversal symmetry, the quantum phase transition is preempted by a pairing phase. Additionally, the first-order quantum phase transition may extend to finite temperatures and terminate at a thermal critical point.
