Assessment of the free radical scavenging potential of cannabidiol under physiological conditions: Theoretical and experimental investigations

Houssem Boulebd et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the radical scavenging activity of CBD under physiological conditions. The results show that CBD is an effective radical scavenger in aqueous solution, but exhibits weak activity in a specific solvent. Furthermore, CBD does not demonstrate significant antiradical activity in basal cell conditions.

Calculating bond dissociation energies of X-H (X=C, N, O, S) bonds of aromatic systems via density functional theory: a detailed comparison of methods

Nguyen Quang Trung et al.

Summary: This study compares the performance of 17 different density functional theory functionals for calculating the bond dissociation energy (BDE) values of X-H bonds in aromatic compounds. The results show that the M06-2X, M05-2X, and M08-HX functionals yield highly accurate BDE values compared to experimental data, outperforming other functionals.

The hydroperoxyl radical scavenging activity of natural hydroxybenzoic acids in oil and aqueous environments: Insights into the mechanism and kinetics

Do Thi Ngoc Hang et al.

Summary: Hydroxybenzoic acid derivatives (HBA), found in foods such as red fruits, black radish, onion, and potato peel, are known for their anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and antioxidant capabilities. This study investigated the mechanisms and kinetics of HBA in scavenging hydroperoxyl radicals using density functional theory calculations. The results showed that HBA have low antiradical activity in nonpolar environments, but exhibit significant activity in water at physiological pH through single electron transfer reactions. The overall rate constant increases with higher pH values for most substances studied.
