Efficient Promoters and Reaction Paths in the CO2 Hydrogenation to Light Olefins over Zirconia-Supported Iron Catalysts

Alan J. Barrios et al.

Summary: This article investigated the reaction mechanism and efficient promoters for the CO2 hydrogenation to light olefins over iron catalysts using high throughput experimentation and extended characterization. It was found that alkaline metals were the most effective promoters, and simultaneous addition of potassium with other promoters further increased the selectivity to light olefins.

Basic Promotors Impact Thermodynamics and Catalyst Speciation in Homogeneous Carbonyl Hydrogenation

Wenjun Yang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that additives in homogeneously catalyzed reactions can indirectly participate in catalysis by adjusting the thermodynamics of key transformations. It suggests that reaction promotors should be considered as an integral component of the reaction medium, capable of improving catalytic performance and reshaping the catalytic transformation thermodynamics.

Improving selective hydrogenation of carbonyls bond in α, β-unsaturated aldehydes over Pt nanoparticles encaged within the amines-functionalized MIL-101-NH2

Muhammad Zahid et al.

Summary: In this study, Pt nanoparticles were encapsulated within the mesopores of amine-functionalized MOFs to enhance the selectivity of hydrogenation reactions. The nitrogen heteroatom and steric effect induced by the MOFs were found to play key roles in improving the catalytic performance for the selective hydrogenation of carbonyls (C=O) bond. The nitrogen heteroatom facilitated the dispersion and stabilization of small-sized Pt nanoparticles, while the steric effect enhanced the selective adsorption of the C=O bond, resulting in higher selectivity.

Selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol in water under mild conditions over a hydrotalcite-derived Pt-based catalyst

Ge Gao et al.

Summary: A novel hydrotalcite-derived Pt-based catalyst was synthesized for selective hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol. The catalyst's structure facilitated high dispersion and effective reduction of Pt species, and enabled selective adsorption of the aldehyde group of furfural and rapid desorption of the produced furfuryl alcohol, ensuring high selectivity and stability.

Guidelines to prepare active, selective, and stable supported metal catalysts for CO2 methanation with hydrogen

Won Kyung Moon et al.

Summary: This study reports the high performance of 1% Ru-loaded ETS-10 and 1% Ru-loaded TiO2 catalysts for catalytic thermal hydrogenation of CO2 to CH4. The catalysts demonstrated high intrinsic reaction rates, TOFs, and good methane selectivity. The study provides guidelines for preparing high performance catalysts, including the use of microporous materials as supports, the ability to introduce and stabilize metal nanoparticles, and the importance of nanoparticle size, loading level, affinity to capture CO2, basicity, and resistance to CO poisoning.

Zeolite-Encaged Isolated Platinum Ions Enable Heterolytic Dihydrogen Activation and Selective Hydrogenations

Xin Deng et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a facile strategy to encapsulate Ptd(+) species within Y zeolite and reveals the unique configuration of Pt@Y model catalyst for selective hydrogenation. The atomically dispersed Pt delta+ stabilized by the surrounding oxygen atoms enables exclusive heterolytic activation of dihydrogen, leading to remarkable performance in selective hydrogenation reactions.

Strong metal-support interaction boosting the catalytic activity of Au/TiO2 in chemoselective hydrogenation

Feng Hong et al.

Summary: Gold catalysts have shown lower catalytic activity in chemoselective hydrogenation reactions compared to platinum group metals, but this study demonstrates that chemoselective hydrogenation activity can be enhanced by up to 3.3 times through the hydrogen reduction strategy on Au/TiO2 catalysts. Strong metal-support interaction between gold nanoparticles and TiO2 support is introduced through hydrogen reduction, partially dispersing reduced TiOx on the Au surface and benefiting H-2 activation.
