Induction chemoimmunotherapy followed by CD8+immune cell-based patient selection for chemotherapy-free radioimmunotherapy in locally advanced head and neck cancer

Markus Hecht et al.

Summary: The purpose of this trial was to study the feasibility of combined programmed death protein ligand 1/cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 inhibition with radiotherapy, and to analyze the efficacy of the treatment scheme consisting of induction chemoimmunotherapy followed by chemotherapy-free radioimmunotherapy (RIT) after intratumoral CD8+ immune cell-based patient selection. The trial showed that RIT is feasible and the treatment scheme has promising progression-free survival.

Cytotoxic CD8+T cells in cancer and cancer immunotherapy

Hans Raskov et al.

Summary: The functions and interactions between the innate and adaptive immune systems play a crucial role in anticancer immunity. Cytotoxic T cells with CD8 as the most effective effectors in the anticancer immune response form the basis of successful cancer immunotherapies. Advancements in genetically modified or synthetic receptors on cytotoxic T cells are being developed for future cancer treatment. Combinatory regimens may optimize treatment effects and reduce adverse events in cancer therapy.

Discrepancy in p16 expression in patients with HPV-associated head and neck squamous cell carcinoma in Thailand: clinical characteristics and survival outcomes

Lalida Arsa et al.

Summary: The prevalence of HPV infection and p16 expression is lower in Thai patients with HNSCC compared to Western countries. p16 is a significant prognostic factor for OS in both HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and non-OPSCC. Detection of HPV should be performed regardless of p16 expression in order to assess the association with HNSCC.
