Dermoscopy and Trichoscopy in Dermatomyositis-A Cross-Sectional Study

Magdalena Zychowska et al.

Summary: Dermoscopy, particularly capillaroscopy and tricoscopy, can provide valuable insights into the characteristics of inflammatory skin diseases like dermatomyositis. The examination of nailfolds, scalp, and active skin lesions using videodermoscopy can reveal various vascular and structural changes, aiding in the preliminary diagnosis of dermatomyositis.

Long-term changes in nail fold capillary abnormalities and serum fibroblast growth factor 23 levels in dermatomyositis patients with anti-melanoma differentiating antigen 5 antibody

Yasuhito Hamaguchi et al.

Summary: In DM patients with anti-MDA5 antibody, long-term treatment resulted in reversibility of nail fold videocapillaroscopy abnormalities and changes in serum FGF23 and VEGF levels. The study showed that irregularly enlarged capillaries were reduced significantly after treatment, and hemorrhages disappeared completely. Serum FGF23 levels were found to reflect the degree of microvascular damage in these patients.

Dermatomyositis autoantibodies: how can we maximize utility?

Luqman Mushila Hodgkinson et al.

Summary: Significant advances have been made in the research of myositis-specific autoantibodies (MSAs) in patients with dermatomyositis (DM) in the past 15 years. Different MSAs are associated with unique clinical and pathological phenotypes, as well as varying risks for interstitial lung disease and internal malignancy. However, further standardization and validation of assays for different MSAs are still needed.

Covert clues: the non-hallmark cutaneous manifestations of dermatomyositis

Rochelle L. Castillo et al.

Summary: Dermatomyositis is a highly heterogeneous disease with diverse cutaneous manifestations, making its diagnosis reliant on prompt detection of skin symptoms and clinician recognition of various cutaneous clues. In addition to well-known skin manifestations, less common manifestations also play a vital role in facilitating timely diagnosis and early intervention for patients with DM.
