Hybrid Porphyrin/DOPA-melanin film as self-assembled material and smart device for dye-pollutant removal in water

Massimiliano Gaeta et al.

Summary: Mussels-inspired melanin coatings from L-DOPA are gaining attention due to their easy synthesis and low-cost production. However, the spontaneous deposition of DOPA-melanin is affected by experimental factors, limiting the preparation of robust adhesive films for practical use. We have developed a feasible method to functionalize an ordinary glass substrate with a self-assembled and homogeneous DOPA-melanin film. By introducing H2TCPPspm4 porphyrin, a hybrid film with 20% enhancement in adsorption capacity is obtained. The hybrid system shows significant reusability for dye-adsorption cycles, indicating potential for a smart, reusable, and scalable water remediation device.

Graphene oxide-chitosan composite aerogel for adsorption of methyl orange and methylene blue: Effect of pH in single and binary systems

Yawei Shi et al.

Summary: A series of composite aerogels were prepared from graphene oxide and chitosan with different precursor mass ratios, and their adsorption properties for methyl orange and methylene blue were investigated. The aerogel prepared at GO:CS = 1:2 (w/w) showed optimal compromise between adsorption and mechanical properties. The pH-responsive feature of the aerogel for single dye adsorption was observed, with selective adsorption at low pH and synergistic adsorption at high initial concentration in the binary system.

Hexamethyldisiloxane removal from biogas using reduced graphene-oxide aerogels as adsorbents

Yanhui Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, six reduced graphene-oxide aerogels (rGOAs) were prepared from industrial-grade multilayer graphene oxide by a hydrothermochemical reduction method in the presence of various amine additives, and their adsorptive performance for hexamethyldisiloxane (L2) removal was investigated. The results showed that the adsorption capacities of the rGOAs were significantly related to their textural properties and hydrophobicity, and U-rGOA exhibited the highest specific surface area, total pore volume, and contact angle among the tested rGOAs. The findings suggest that rGOA materials have good application potential as adsorbents for methyl siloxane removal.
