Polyaniline-supported tungsten-catalyzed oxidative deoximation reaction with high catalyst turnover number

Wen Li et al.

Summary: Polyaniline-supported tungsten (W@PANI) is an efficient catalyst for the oxidative deoximation reaction, which is crucial in the pharmaceutical industry. The method utilizes a minimal amount of catalytic tungsten (0.048 mol% vs. oxime substrates), resulting in high turnover numbers (TONs) of the catalyst (ca. 10(3) mol/mol) and low metal residues in the product (<0.1 ppm). It is applicable for various substrates, including heterocycles, and has been successfully scaled up for kilogram production.

Are Well Performing Catalysts for the Ring Opening Polymerization of L-Lactide under Mild Laboratory Conditions Suitable for the Industrial Process? The Case of New Highly Active Zn(II) Catalysts

Massimo Christian D'Alterio et al.

Summary: Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is a sustainable plastic material for a circular economy, but few alternative catalysts can compete with the current catalyst for industrial production. A family of new Zn(II) complexes with various substituted ligands has been developed as catalysts for PLA polymerization under different conditions. The best performing catalyst under mild conditions is the worst performing under harsh conditions, and vice versa. Preliminary tests also suggest the potential of these catalysts for chemical recycling of PLA.

Zinc and magnesium catalysts for the synthesis for PLA and its degradation: Clues for catalyst design

Federica Santulli et al.

Summary: Homoleptic and heteroleptic zinc and magnesium complexes with phenoxy-imine pyridine ligands were synthesized and characterized. Various structural parameters were investigated to identify design elements for improving catalytic activity in the ring opening polymerization of lactide and the degradation reaction of polylactide. Zinc catalysts exhibited high efficiency and control degree, while magnesium catalysts showed lower activity and weaker control degree. The most active complexes in the ring opening polymerization also exhibited high efficiency in the degradation reaction.

Preparation, characterization and application of maleic anhydride-modified polylactic acid macromonomer based on direct melt polymerization

S. -H. Luo et al.

Summary: A one-pot two-step method based on direct melt polymerization (DMP) for the synthesis of polylactic acid (PLA) macromonomer and its further functionalized application has been developed. The method involves copolycondensation of lactic acid (LA) and maleic anhydride (MAH) to obtain poly(lactic acid-co-maleic anhydride) (PLAM) with reactive double bonds, followed by radical copolymerization of different acrylates with PLAM to afford modified PLA functional materials. The acrylates with substituted methyl groups polymerize relatively stable, while the ester segment with more carbon atoms results in higher viscosity and decomposition temperature.

Organotellurium-catalyzed oxidative deoximation reactions using visible-light as the precise driving energy

Xin Deng et al.

Summary: The recyclable (PhTe)(2)-catalyzed oxidative deoximation reaction can occur under mild conditions with elevated product yields and expanded substrate scope. Using visible light as a driving energy is more precise than heating, breaking the Te-Te bond accurately without damaging the fragile substituents of substrates. The use of O-2 as an oxidant provides safer reaction conditions compared to explosive H2O2 for large-scale applications.
