Exploitation-Exploration Model of Media Multitasking

Wisnu Wiradhany et al.

Summary: This article introduces the exploitation-exploration model of media multitasking, which suggests that media multitasking occurs as a natural part of the waxing and waning of our task engagement. The limitations of the current perspective of media multitasking as a distraction are highlighted in the first part, while the second part provides an exposition on the definition of behavior exploitation and exploration, the importance of maintaining an optimal balance between the two, and the neurobiological evidence supporting the transition from exploitation to exploration.

Everyday functioning-related cognitive correlates of media multitasking: a mini meta-analysis

Wisnu Wiradhany et al.

Summary: Recent meta-analysis showed that media multitasking may not lead to less efficient cognitive processing, but self-reports indicated a correlation between media multitasking and cognitive functioning in daily situations. Factors associated with media multitasking include attention regulation, behavior regulation, inhibition/impulsiveness, and memory.
