Facile synthesis of transition metal oxide SnO2/MnO2 hierarchical nanostructure: As an efficient electrocatalyst for robust oxygen evolution reaction

Norah Alwadai et al.

Summary: One of the main areas of current research in electrochemical water oxidation mechanism for clean energy production is the development of a cost-effective, efficient, and durable electrocatalyst. Metal oxides based on MnO2 have proven to be advantageous for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in a basic electrolyte due to their strong electrical characteristics and synergistic effects. In this study, a SnO2/MnO2 nanocomposite was synthesized using a hydrothermal approach and applied to the OER process using Cu foam as a conductive substrate. The nanocomposite exhibited a Tafel slope mechanism of 38.9 mV dec(-1) and a low overpotential (eta) of 360 mV @ 10 mA cm(-2) for OER in alkaline atmosphere. This study validates the value of nanocrystalline catalysts with controlled hierarchical designs for enhancing OER activity.

Recent advances in carbon nanomaterials-based electrochemical sensors for food azo dyes detection

Hassan Karimi-Maleh et al.

Summary: Azo dyes are widely used food colorants for their stability and affordability. However, they can have harmful impacts on living organs, necessitating the control of their content in food. Electro-analytical techniques have been favored for detecting azo dyes due to their sensitivity, selectivity, reproducibility, miniaturization, green nature, low cost, short sample preparation and detection time, and electrode modification capabilities. Carbon-based nanomaterials, such as carbon nanotubes (CNT) and graphene (Gr), have shown satisfactory results in the fabrication of electrochemical sensing systems for detecting the levels of azo dyes in various specimens.

Summary: Pure and europium-doped manganese oxide photocatalysts were synthesized using a sol-gel technique, and their physical, anatomical, and optical properties were extensively characterized. The results showed that the energy band gap and crystallinity of the europium-doped MnO2 were altered compared to the pure MnO2. The successful doping of europium into the MnO2 crystal structure was confirmed, and the europium doping enhanced the photocatalytic response and enabled effective degradation of phenol within a short period.
