Outcome analysis of early surgery and conservative treatment in neonates and infants with severe hydronephrosis

Qi-Fei Deng et al.

Summary: This study found that early surgical treatment (EST) can accelerate the recovery of renal morphological and functional indices in neonates and infants with severe hydronephrosis. Compared with conservative treatment (CT), the EST group showed significantly reduced anteroposterior diameter of the renal pelvis and Society of Fetal Urology grade at 3 and 6 months of follow-up, and greater thickness of the renal cortex, with significantly improved renal function after 6 months of follow-up.
