Spatial Distribution Characteristics of Coal Mine Drainage Water Quality in China

Qingyi Cao et al.

Summary: Coal mine drainage reuse is crucial for optimizing water resources in arid/semi-arid areas. This study examines the water quality, management, and utilization strategies of coal mine drainage in different regions of China. The findings reveal that mine water reuse is safe and supportive of local water supply in the northwest, northeast, and north China, while the utilization of coal mine drainage in the southern regions, particularly in the southwest, faces challenges due to high costs and environmental risks. To maximize the utilization of coal mine drainage, improvements in norms and standards, policy support, and the development of a comprehensive coal mine water utilization system are necessary.

Genesis of geogenic contaminated groundwater: As, F and I

Yanxin Wang et al.

Summary: This review discusses the hydrogeological features, main sources of geogenic hazardous substances, dominant hydrogeochemical processes, and key factors controlling the occurrence of high arsenic, high fluoride, and high iodine groundwater. Four basic genetic types of GCGs are proposed by summarizing the characteristics of the distribution and major hydrogeochemical processes.

Evaluating the distribution and potential ecological risks of heavy metal in coal gangue

Ya-qiao Sun et al.

Summary: Coal gangue contains high levels of heavy metals, particularly Pb, which is significantly higher than the background value. The potential ecological risks are strong due to Mo and Pb, with a comprehensive ecological risk index ranging from 351.51 to 412.27. Weathering promotes the release of heavy metals in the gangue, with Cu and Pb contents in leaching solution of weathered gangue higher than in fresh gangue.

Environmental geochemical maps of harmful trace elements in Chinese coalfields

Qingyi Cao et al.

Summary: This study utilized geochemical maps to reveal the geochemical characteristics of harmful trace elements in Chinese coal, analyzing the enrichment patterns and influencing factors of HTEs in coal. The results showed that geological structures and stratum fracture zones play important roles in the distribution and migration of HTEs.

Spatial distribution of harmful trace elements in Chinese coalfields: An application of WebGIS technology

Qingyi Cao et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the geospatial distribution of harmful trace elements in Chinese coals using the TECC database management system and spatial data algorithms. The results showed that these elements are unevenly distributed in Chinese coals, mainly concentrated in the south, especially in the southwest region, with some also found in coals from northwest, northeast, and north China.
