Flotation of quartz using imidazole ionic liquid collectors with different counterions

Qian Cheng et al.

Summary: Four kinds of ionic liquids (ILs) with different counterions were used as collectors in flotation tests for pure quartz and quartz-hematite mixed ore. The ILs showed excellent collection performance for pure quartz and improved collecting capacity compared to DDA. The selection of ILs as collectors also led to better beneficiation efficiency for the mixed ore, especially when using imidazole ILs with chlorine and hexafluorophosphate ligands. The study also provides insights into the adsorption mechanisms of ILs and DDA on quartz surfaces through XPS, IR, and Zeta potential analysis.

Influence of P and Ti on Phase Formation at Solidification of Synthetic Slag Containing Li, Zr, La, and Ta

Thomas Schirmer et al.

Summary: In the future, recovering critical elements from waste material will be increasingly important. Pyrometallurgical processing is an established method for efficiently recovering technologically important elements, such as copper or cobalt. Less important elements, like lithium, are found in the slag. The phase formation and incorporation of elements like zirconium, rare earth elements, tantalum, and lithium were studied. The presence of titanium and phosphorus strongly influenced the phase formation, with different compounds forming depending on their presence.

Tracing of lithium supply and demand bottleneck in China's new energy vehicle industry-Based on the chart of lithium flow

Linchang Zheng et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of China's new energy vehicle industry, the supply security of lithium resources has become crucial. This study analyzes the stock and flow of lithium in the new energy vehicle industry and finds that China's supply and demand pressure on lithium resources is increasing year by year, with domestic lithium ore supply, import and export pressure, and lithium battery scrap and recycling being the main issues. The results provide a theoretical basis for ensuring the healthy development of the new energy vehicle industry and promoting international cooperation in the development, utilization, and recycling of lithium resources.

Influencing the froth flotation of LiAlO2 and melilite solid solution with ionic liquids

Hao Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, experiments for single mineral flotation against LiAlO2 and melilite s.s. were conducted using seven ionic liquids. Two ionic liquids, IL-1 and IL-7, showed promising results and were further studied. The influence of different anions on the flotation process was evaluated. Additionally, the effects of conventional collectors and modified cholesterol derivatives on flotation were examined. This research is significant for optimizing lithium recovery from pyrometallurgical recycling and flotation of primary minerals.

Polarization-Dependent Birefringence in Lithium Aluminosilicate Glass

V. N. Sigaev et al.

Summary: Polarization-dependent birefringence formation in lithium silicate and lithium aluminosilicate glasses under femtosecond laser pulses is likely due to the formation of nanogratings. The presence of an alkaline component in the glass composition leads to an increase in Al2O3 content, impacting the minimum number of pulses required for birefringent region formation and the retardance.

Modeling the potential impact of future lithium recycling on lithium demand in China: A dynamic SFA approach

Xueyi Guo et al.

Summary: A dynamic substance flow model of recyclable lithium resources in China from 2000 to 2030 was established to evaluate the impact on the lithium supply chain. The results show that by 2030, accumulated obsolete LIBs will reach 121 billion containing over 522 kilotons of recyclable lithium resources. Among the six products investigated, EVs have the largest sector and highest growth speed. The study suggests emphasizing domestically produced lithium as a compensation for the current high import dependence, and developing technology and equipment for lithium recycling and salt lake exploitation. Compliance with specific laws and regulations on lithium resource allocation and recycling, as well as applying lithium alternatives to non-battery products, is recommended.

How economic indicators impact the EU internal demand for critical raw materials

Igor Cerny et al.

Summary: The study revealed varying levels of correlation between the internal EU demand for critical raw materials and economic indicators, indicating that price is not the main determinant of demand. Instead, factors such as inflation, population, and GDP might have a stronger influence on the demand for certain critical raw materials. This finding suggests that policies and investments aimed at reducing Europe's reliance on imports of raw materials should also consider these economic indicators.
