Monolayer-Protected Gold Nanoparticles Functionalized with Halogen Bonding Capability- An Avenue for Molecular Detection Schemes

Quang Minh Dang et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of halogen bonding (XB) in conjunction with non-aqueous nanoparticles to achieve molecular detection with implications for supramolecular chemistry, forensic, and environmental chemical sensing. Through density functional theory (DFT) and NMR techniques, a strong XB-donor moiety(-C6F4I) is identified and synthesized for attachment to NPs, demonstrating successful molecular recognition events with limits of detection of 50-100 nM for strong XB acceptors.

Self-Assembly of a Bilayer 2D Supramolecular Organic Framework in Water

Bo Yang et al.

Summary: Accurately controlling the layer number of orderly stacked 2D polymers remains a challenge in self-assembly. In this study, a bilayer 2D supramolecular organic framework was fabricated from a monolayer framework in water through cooperative coordination, showing structural regularity in both solution and solid state, with the bilayer character selectively realized on the micrometer scale.

Database Investigation of Halogen Bonding and Halogen•••Halogen Interactions between Porphyrins: Emergence of Robust Supramolecular Motifs and Frameworks

Toni S. Spilfogel et al.

Summary: In this study, the role of halogen bonds and interactions in the solid-state structures of porphyrins beyond the commonly considered iodine-based halogen bonds was analyzed using the Cambridge Structural Database. The observations of self-assembly through beta-positioned substituents and the abundance of chlorine-based halogen center⋯halogen and halogen-bonding motifs were particularly notable. This systematic categorization of complex halogen-based recognition motifs provides a foundation for the design of complex supramolecular architectures.

Halogen-Bonded Organic Framework (XOF) Based on Iodonium-Bridged N...I+...N Interactions: A Type of Diphase Periodic Organic Network

Guanfei Gong et al.

Summary: Through unique design and fabrication, a novel two-dimensional halogen-bonded organic framework XOF-TPPE was successfully synthesized in this study, and its structure was analyzed using various techniques. Experimental results showed that XOF-TPPE maintains a stable 2D framework structure in solutions, opening up a new avenue for the development of organic framework materials.
