The Hypopigmentation Mechanism of Tyrosinase Inhibitory Peptides Derived from Food Proteins: An Overview

Yuqiong Song et al.

Summary: Finding effective tyrosinase inhibitors is challenging due to cell mutation and cytotoxicity. Food-derived peptides have shown excellent anti-tyrosinase activity by inhibiting oxidation reactions, occupying tyrosinase's bioactive site, and regulating gene expression. Functional foods are rapidly developing as they exhibit good biocompatibility.

Kojic Acid Showed Consistent Inhibitory Activity on Tyrosinase from Mushroom and in Cultured B16F10 Cells Compared with Arbutins

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the activity and inhibition types of four compounds - kojic acid, beta-arbutin, alpha-arbutin, and deoxyarbutin - on mushroom tyrosinase. Kojic acid was found to be the most suitable positive control, as it effectively inhibited the enzyme's activity and reduced melanin content without cytotoxicity. The study also provided explanations for the contradictions in previous reports.

Identification of peptides with antioxidant, anti-lipoxygenase, anti-xanthine oxidase and anti-tyrosinase activities from velvet antler blood

Chuanbo Ding et al.

Summary: In this study, researchers aimed to identify new peptides with antioxidant, anti-LOX, anti-XOD, and anti-tyrosinase activities from velvet antler blood (VB) using simulated gastrointestinal digestion. They identified 219 different peptide sequences, derived mainly from serum albumin, tyrosine-protein kinase receptor, and adult beta-globin. Eight peptides were further screened and synthesized based on confidence score, online database retrieval, and in silico prediction. These findings provide new insights for the potential application of VB and its derived peptides in functional food, pharmaceutical, and cosmeceutical industries.

Virtual Screening for SARS-CoV-2 Main Protease Inhibitory Peptides from the Putative Hydrolyzed Peptidome of Rice Bran

Nathaphat Harnkit et al.

Summary: This study predicted and analyzed the hydrolyzed peptidomes of major rice bran proteins and identified potential antiviral peptides against SARS-CoV-2 using bioinformatics tools. The top-ranked candidate peptides were docked to the SARS-CoV-2 main protease, and their potential inhibitory effects were analyzed. The results showed that these peptides had specific amino acid compositions and formed hydrogen bonds with the main protease. This study provides a potential starting point for peptide-based therapeutic agents against COVID-19.

In silico investigation and assessment of plausible novel tyrosinase inhibitory peptides from sesame seeds

Roshni Baskaran et al.

Summary: This study focused on identifying bioactive peptides from sesame seed proteins to inhibit tyrosinase activity, with promising results showing these peptides had higher binding affinities and effectively inhibited the enzyme by chelating copper ions. Peptides IR, LK, and VY were found to be the most effective inhibitors, also being non-toxic and non-carcinogenic according to toxicity analysis. These findings suggest that small peptides from sesame seeds could be novel and safe tyrosinase inhibitors in the food industry.
