Recovering precipitates from dechlorination process of saline wastewater as poly aluminum chloride

Jiaming Guo et al.

Summary: A novel process was proposed to recover dechlorination precipitate from saline wastewater as poly aluminum chloride (PAC) in this study. Through leaching experiments, it was found that high basicity PAC could be efficiently achieved, reducing the residual Al3+ in treated water. PAC recovery could efficiently compensate chemical cost for Cl removal, which was economically beneficial and inspirable for utilization of Friedel's salt in other domains.

Influence of salinity on heavy metal and oil removal from hypersaline oilfield-produced water by electrocoagulation: mechanistic insights

Mahdieh Mehri et al.

Summary: The study found that under high salinity conditions, the removal rates of cadmium and COD by aluminum hydroxide decreased by 21% and 18% respectively, while an increase in oil content enhanced cadmium adsorption. High salinity caused the formation of unstable adsorbents, resulting in decreased adsorption capacity. According to BET and XRD analysis, high crystallinity and small surface area were the main reasons for the reduced adsorption capacity in hypersaline environments.

An electroactive ion exchange hybrid film with collaboratively-driven ability for electrochemically-mediated selective extraction of chloride ions

Wangwang Ji et al.

Summary: In this study, a BiOCl/PPy-Cl hybrid film with core-shell nanosheet structure was successfully fabricated for selective extraction of chloride ions with superior conductivity and high adsorption capacity. The hybrid film displayed prominent selectivity and stable adsorption performance towards Cl- due to the outer PPy-Cl shell. The excellent Cl- uptake performance was attributed to the open interlayer structure of BiOCl and the collaboratively-driven force generated by the reversible electrochemical redox of BiOCl and PPy.

Treatment of a dairy effluent by classical electrocoagulation and indirect electrocoagulation with aluminum electrodes

Serge Raoul Tchamango et al.

Summary: By applying classical electrocoagulation and indirect electrocoagulation to an artificial dairy effluent, the study found that optimum removals were achieved at pH 7 with calcium chloride as the supporting electrolyte. The treated effluent can be reused within 45 hours, and the results showed similar turbidity and phosphates removal between electrocoagulation with open circuit and classical electrocoagulation, with the latter showing weaker removal of organic matter.

Process optimization to enhance utilization efficiency of precipitants for chloride removal from flue gas desulfurization wastewater via Friedel's salt precipitation

Xiaofang Ye et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of various factors on maximizing the aluminum utilization rate for chlorin removal from flue gas desulfurization wastewater. By optimizing the reaction conditions, the treatment cost of Friedel's salt precipitation method was reduced by 30.5%, making the two-stage desalination process more feasible and worth popularizing.

Mechanisms behind pH changes during electrocoagulation

Soren Fredberg Weiss et al.

Summary: Electrocoagulation is an effective method for removing pollutants from water, with pH change during the process being influenced significantly by dissolved carbonate. The increase in pH can have a significant impact on the coagulation efficiency of iron, while sulfate and chloride ions have a minor effect on pH change. Charged organic macromolecules do not significantly affect pH during electrocoagulation.
