Population-land urbanization and comprehensive development evaluation of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration

Yufeng Wang

Summary: Urban agglomeration, as the main form of new urbanization strategy, plays an important role in inter-regional economic development, population flow, and industrial cooperation. Taking Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration as an example, the temporal and spatial characteristics of its evolution and industrial transfer were analyzed. The results show a concentration of resources and uneven development in urban land use, with a downward trend in urban sprawl. The development index of different cities also varies, and there is a trend of agglomeration and diffusion of regional industries in geographical space.

Knowledge Map of Spatial Planning and Sustainable Development: A Visual Analysis Using CiteSpace

Jiao Zhang et al.

Summary: Spatial planning plays a critical role in promoting sustainable development, but there is still a lack of comprehensive research in this field worldwide. Through bibliometric analysis, this study reveals the trends, collaborations, and differences in research focuses between global and Chinese spatial planning research, providing valuable insights for future studies and collaborations.

Modeling urban sprinkling with cellular automata

Lucia Saganeiti et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a spatiotemporal analysis method for simulating and predicting urban expansion using cellular automata (CA) and multinomial logistic regression (MLR) model. Through analyzing regional building datasets and identifying causative factors, the study reveals a decoupled growth pattern between demographic trend and urban expansion in the Basilicata region of Italy. The results show the largest variations in low density builtup patches, corresponding to urban sprinkling, in the forecasted urban expansion for 2030.

Understanding the pattern and mechanism of spatial concentration of urban land use, population and economic activities: a case study in Wuhan, China

Zehui Li et al.

Summary: This study in Wuhan, China, reveals that urban elements exhibit an inverse S-shaped decay outward from the city center. Business Point-of-Interest (POI) density and population density are highly aggregated, while floor area ratio and road density are moderately aggregated, and built-up density is poorly aggregated. Three types of spatial aggregation patterns are identified: a point-shaped pattern, an axial pattern, and a planar pattern.

Seeking sustainable development policies at the municipal level based on the triad of city, economy and environment: evidence from Hunan province, China

Zongwei Han et al.

Summary: The study examined the relationships between urbanization, economic development, and ecological environment quality in cities in Hunan province over the past decade using the Environmental Kuznets Curve theory. It found that urban expansion had a high positive impact on economic development, particularly at high urbanization levels, but also had significant negative effects on ecological environment quality. The overall trend showed a slow improvement in environmental quality in cities at both low and high levels of urban expansion.

Development of SLEUTH-Density for the simulation of built-up land density

Ankita Saxena et al.

Summary: Urban growth is a complex phenomenon involving both horizontal and vertical built-up activities. Simulating built-up land density can help planning authorities make better decisions, and a new version of the SLEUTH model has been used to simulate built-up land density in Ajmer city, India, with results validating the accuracy of the simulation.
