Three-Dimensional Hierarchical HRP-MIL-100(Fe)@TiO2@Fe3O4 Janus Magnetic Micromotor as a Smart Active Platform for Detection and Degradation of Hydroquinone

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: A novel multifunctional Janus magnetic micromotor with self-propulsion and high peroxidase-like activity was developed for the detection and degradation of hydroquinone. The micromotor exhibited a unique 3D hierarchical architecture and could autonomously move, making it an effective platform for dynamically sensitive detection and quick removal of hydroquinone from water.

Transition metal dichalcogenide-based Janus micromotors for on-the-fly Salmonella detection

Marta Pacheco et al.

Summary: In this study, Janus micromotors encapsulating transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and modified with a rhodamine-labeled affinity peptide were successfully used for Salmonella enterica endotoxin detection. The OFF-ON strategy based on the specific binding of the peptide with the TMDs allowed for fluorescence quenching and subsequent recovery upon binding to the endotoxin. The developed method demonstrated high sensitivity, selectivity, and bacterial specificity, showing potential for multiplexed assays and portable detection devices.

Highly sensitive determination of heavy metals in water prior to and after remediation using Citrofortunella Microcarpa

Shirley T. Palisoc et al.

Summary: A highly sensitive electrode modified with bismuth/silver nanoparticles/Nafion on screen-printed graphene was used to detect trace lead concentrations in river water samples. Various forms of Calamansi rinds were effective in remediating lead, confirming the novel method's efficacy for lead removal in water. Characterization of the electrode confirmed the presence of modifiers on the surface, and optimized experimental conditions yielded a detection limit of 267.6 ppt with a strong linear relationship between Pb concentration and anodic current response (R-2=0.999).

Fluorescence Detection of miRNA-21 Using Au/Pt Bimetallic Tubular Micromotors Driven by Chemical and Surface Acoustic Wave Forces

Gamze Celik Cogal et al.

Summary: This study focuses on utilizing surface acoustic wave (SAW) systems to enhance the detection limit of the cancer-related biomarker miRNA-21 by immobilizing probe dye-labeled single-stranded DNA on Au/Pt micromotors that recognize the target miRNA-21. The speed and fluorescence intensity changes of the micromotors in response to miRNA-21 concentration variation were studied under both with and without SAW conditions, showing a linear relationship. The resulting fluorescence sensor demonstrated a lower limit of detection of 0.19 nM, which was more than 2 folds lower compared to conditions without SAW, indicating the effectiveness of acoustic removal systems in improving the sensor performance.
