Hierarchical structure of amorphous Co-P nanosheets decorated crystalline NiCo2S4 nanorods as a bifunctional catalyst for electrocatalytic water splitting

Jun Cao et al.

Summary: In this work, amorphous Co-P modified NiCo2S4 nanorods were used as a bifunctional catalyst for electrocatalytic water splitting in alkaline solution. The amorphous Co-P nanosheets on the surface of NiCo2S4 decreased the energy barrier of hydrogen adsorption-desorption and H2O adsorption, leading to enhanced catalytic performance and reaction kinetics for HER and OER in alkaline media. Consequently, the amorphous/crystalline Co-P/NiCo2S4 nanoarrays exhibited superior performance for full-water-splitting compared to pure NiCo2S4, reducing the cell voltage at 40 mA cm-2 from 1.709 V to 1.665 V.

Freestanding and Permeable Nanoporous Gold Membranes for Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering

Roman M. Wyss et al.

Summary: This study introduces freestanding porous gold membranes as reliable and effective substrates for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The membranes exhibit mechanical stability under pressure and show surface-enhanced Raman scattering with high enhancement factors. Numerical simulations reveal that individual nanoscale pores in the membrane act as optical slot antennas.

Hierarchically rough CuO/Ag composite film with controlled morphology as recyclable SERS-active substrate

Qiong Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a hierarchically rough CuO/Ag composite film with good SERS performance and recyclability was prepared by loading silver nanoparticles onto a copper oxide film with hierarchical micro/nanostructures. The CuO/Ag composite substrate can degrade surface adsorbed molecules under light irradiation, achieving self-cleaning and reusable. With the optimized composite film as the SERS active substrate, low detection limits for R6G and CV molecules were achieved. The hierarchical CuO/Ag composite film has great potential for efficient SERS sensors.

Enhancing hydrogen evolution through urea electrolysis over Co-doped Ni-P-O film on nickel foam

Jun Cao et al.

Summary: A Co-doped Ni-P-O film supported on nickel foam with high activity for urea oxidation reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction is successfully prepared. The introduction of Co reduces the onset potential of Ni-P-O and enhances the active sites and synergetic effect on water dissociation and hydrogen desorption. The optimum activity is achieved with 8% Co content, offering the lowest overpotential and Tafel slope. Urea-assistance further improves the efficiency of hydrogen generation.
