Hidden vibronic and excitonic structure and vibronic coherence transfer in the bacterial reaction center

Veronica R. Policht et al.

Summary: This article reports two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy experiments on the bacterial reaction center, revealing hidden vibrational and excitonic structures. By analyzing the coherent dynamics of the reaction center, multiple quasi-resonances between pigment vibrations and excitonic energy gaps are identified, as well as vibronic coherence transfer processes that are often neglected in standard models. These findings provide insights into the energy transfer and charge separation processes in photosynthesis.

Synthetic Control of Exciton Dynamics in Bioinspired CofacialPorphyrin Dimers

Partha Pratim Roy et al.

Summary: This study combines experimental and theoretical approaches to modify exciton delocalization, tune electronic and vibrational coherences, and alter the mechanism of exciton transfer. The results show that differences in structure affect the dynamics and coherence of excitons. Theoretical studies explain how interchromophore interactions and couplings influence exciton delocalization and rapid exciton transfer dynamics.

3,6-Carbazoylene Octaphyrin (1.0.0.0.1.0.0.0) and Its Bis-BF2 Complex

Hao Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, an octaphyrin with modulated conformation and electronic structure was synthesized using 3,6-carbazole precursors. The resulting nonaromatic macrocyclic complexes, 2-2TFA and 2-2BF(2), exhibited noteworthy photophysical properties. Particularly, 2-2TFA showed strong panchromic absorption up to 800 nm, while 2-2BF(2) displayed an intense visible absorption feature and a relatively red-shifted emission at 640 nm with a large Stokes shift. Furthermore, 2-2BF(2) was found to be capable of constructing a high-quality organic microlaser under optical pumping.

Photophysical Properties and Electronic Structure of Hydroporphyrin Dyads Exhibiting Strong Through-Space and Through-Bond Electronic Interactions

Arpita Roy et al.

Summary: In this study, the optical properties of chlorin and bacteriochlorin dyads with different degrees of through bond and through space interactions were investigated using spectroscopy and computational methods. The results showed that these interactions have additive effects on the electronic properties of the dyads, and most dyads have shorter lifetimes of the lowest excited state compared to the monomer. This study provides important insights into the nature of electronic interactions between tetrapyrrole arrays.

Perspectives in Dye Chemistry: A Rational Approach toward Functional Materials by Understanding the Aggregate State

David Bialas et al.

Summary: The past 20 years have seen a renaissance in dye chemistry, transitioning from traditional colorant research to functional materials. Functional material properties are governed by intermolecular interactions, rather than molecular structure alone. Future research should focus on developing larger oligomers and being guided by theoretical predictions.

Free Charge Carriers in Homo-Sorted p-Stacks of Donor-Acceptor Conjugates

Meera Madhu et al.

Summary: This review discusses the recent advancements in hierarchical organization of molecular building blocks for improved photoconversion in organic solar cells. The self-sorted donor-on-donor/acceptor-on-acceptor arrangements have shown enhanced charge separation efficiency through ultrafast excited state dynamics. The controlled interface and electronic coupling between covalently linked donors and acceptors provide better charge carrier generation efficiency and offer new possibilities for functional supramolecular architectures.
