Arabic gum plus colistin coated moxifloxacin-loaded nanoparticles for the treatment of bone infection caused by Escherichia coli

J. J. Aguilera-Correa et al.

Summary: This study developed a nanomedicine using mesoporous silica nanoparticles to target and eradicate E. coli-related bone infections. In vitro and in vivo experiments showed that the nanosystem effectively targeted E. coli biofilm and displayed strong antibacterial properties, offering a promising treatment option for bone infections caused by enterobacteria like E. coli.

Pharmacodynamics of Moxifloxacin, Meropenem, Caspofungin, and Their Combinations against In Vitro Polymicrobial Interkingdom Biofilms

Albert Ruiz-Sorribas et al.

Summary: This study investigated the activity of different drugs against interkingdom biofilms using a three-species biofilm model. The results showed limited effectiveness of the drugs when used alone, but increased effects were observed when the drugs were used in combination, particularly against three-species biofilms. Additionally, different antibiotics showed better efficacy against different bacterial species. These findings were further confirmed by confocal microscopy images.

Formulation and Evaluation of Moxifloxacin Loaded Bilosomes In-Situ Gel: Optimization to Antibacterial Evaluation

Ameeduzzafar Zafar et al.

Summary: In this study, a moxifloxacin-loaded bilosome in situ gel was developed to improve ocular residence time. The optimized formulation (MX-BSop-Ig4) exhibited desirable viscosity, sustained release, bio-adhesiveness, and antimicrobial properties. It showed no toxicity to the tested tissue and demonstrated significantly higher antimicrobial activity compared to pure moxifloxacin.
