Genetic identification and comparative study on life history parameters of two strains belonging to Brachionus plicatilis species complex (Rotifera: Monogononta)

Summary: The rotifer Brachionus plicatilis is an important species for aquaculture, utilized as a food source for bivalves, fish, and crustacean larvae. This study aimed to genetically identify and evaluate the suitability of two morphologically identical strains for aquaculture. The findings showed differences in life history parameters between the strains, indicating their potential as models for ecotoxicological and molecular studies. Additionally, one strain exhibited better characteristics for rearing in aquaculture as live food.
