Learned Factor Graphs for Inference From Stationary Time Sequences

Nir Shlezinger et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a framework that combines model-based algorithms and data-driven machine learning methods for inference from stationary time sequences. By learning specific components of the factor graph representing the distribution of the sequence, accurate inference can be achieved for sequences of varying lengths. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in sleep stage detection and symbol detection in digital communications.

Quantitative Evaluation of EEG-Biomarkers for Prediction of Sleep Stages

Iqram Hussain et al.

Summary: Electroencephalography (EEG) is a computing tool for understanding the association between neurological outcomes and sleep stages. By analyzing sleep EEG data, neurological EEG-biomarkers can be quantified and different sleep stages can be predicted.

A Study of EEG Feature Complexity in Epileptic Seizure Prediction

Imene Jemal et al.

Summary: This study aims to provide EEG feature complexity analysis in seizure prediction and assess the variability of considered features. By analyzing the complexity of 88 features, it is found that predicting seizures based on pre-ictal/inter-ictal feature distinction is a significantly complex problem with no optimal feature set identified yet.

Quality of Life in Epilepsy: Same questions, but different meaning to different people

Tolulope T. Sajobi et al.

Summary: This study found different response patterns to quality-of-life instruments among patients, indicating heterogeneity in how patients interpret some of the questions. Researchers and users of PROMs in epilepsy need to take into account the differential interpretation of items for various instruments to ensure valid understanding and comparisons of PROM scores.

Quantitative Evaluation of Task-Induced Neurological Outcome after Stroke

Iqram Hussain et al.

Summary: Electroencephalography (EEG) is a prospective predictive method for acute stroke prognostics, neurological outcome, and post-stroke rehabilitation management. This study quantified EEG features to understand task-induced neurological declines due to stroke and evaluated biomarkers to distinguish between stroke patients and healthy adults. The statistical results showed that alpha, theta, and delta activities are biomarkers that classify stroke patients and healthy adults during motor and cognitive states. Using machine-learning, the C5.0 model achieved high accuracy in classifying stroke patients and healthy adults during different tasks.
