The first exploration of coordination chemistry using a methyl substituted o-vanillin based ligand: an example starting with Dy4/Zn2Dy2 systems displaying slow relaxation of magnetization

Anangamohan Panja et al.

Summary: This article explores the coordination ability and electronic effects of a new methyl derivative of o-vanillin in synthesizing two complexes. One complex exhibits slow magnetic relaxation, while the other shows field-supported slow magnetic relaxation. Ab initio calculations reveal that the magnetic behaviors in these complexes can be explained by the counter complementary effect of ferromagnetic dipole-dipole interaction and intramolecular antiferromagnetic interaction.
