Sources of airborne particulate matter-bound metals and spatial-seasonal variability of health risk potentials in four large cities, South Korea

Eunhwa Choi et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the levels of metals in airborne particulate matter in four large cities in South Korea and evaluated the health risks associated with exposure. The main sources of metals differed among the cities, with soil dust and marine aerosol being the largest contributors in most cities. Non-carcinogenic risk and cancer risk were found to exceed safety benchmarks at certain sites, with coal combustion and industrial sources being the major contributors. The study highlights the importance of understanding and controlling metal exposure in urban environments.

Unraveling the process of aerosols secondary formation and removal based on cosmogenic beryllium-7 and beryllium-10

Xuke Liu et al.

Summary: The formation and diffusion processes of aerosol are complex and have significant impacts on the environment and human health. This study used new tracers, Be-7 and Be-10, to explore the processes of aerosol formation and diffusion, and revealed the secondary formation process and physical removal process of aerosols.

Comparative performance analysis of K-nearest neighbour (KNN) algorithm and its different variants for disease prediction

Shahadat Uddin et al.

Summary: This paper studies different variants of the k-nearest neighbour (KNN) algorithm and compares their performance in disease prediction. By implementing and experimenting on eight datasets, the study found that accuracy values ranged from 64.22% to 83.62%, with Hassanaat KNN showing the highest accuracy. The study also proposes a relative performance index based on accuracy, precision, and recall measures, identifying Hassanaat KNN as the best performing variant.

The coefficient of determination R-squared is more informative than SMAPE, MAE, MAPE, MSE and RMSE in regression analysis evaluation

Davide Chicco et al.

Summary: Regression analysis is a key component of supervised machine learning, predicting continuous targets from other variables. While binary classification has targets with two values, regression can have multiple values. However, there is no consensus on a standard metric for evaluating regression results, with commonly used measures like MSE, RMSE, MAE, and MAPE having interpretability limitations.

Integrated Model for Understanding N2O Emissions from Wastewater Treatment Plants: A Deep Learning Approach

Soonho Hwangbo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the application of deep learning in quantitatively describing long-term data from a Danish wastewater treatment plant, with a focus on N2O emissions. The study successfully develops a deep neural network for process modeling and identifies key parameters contributing to high N2O emissions through global sensitivity analysis. Additionally, the study shows that a LSTM-based forecasting model outperforms a DNN-based model in predicting N2O emissions.
