PIAS1-mediated SUMOylation of influenza A virus PB2 restricts viral replication and virulence

Guangwen Wang et al.

Summary: The protein inhibitor of activated STAT 1 (PIAS1) interacts with nucleoprotein (NP), polymerase basic protein 1 (PB1), and polymerase basic protein 2 (PB2) of influenza A virus (IAV). PIAS1 suppresses IAV replication by inhibiting the activity of the viral RNP complex and catalyzing robust SUMOylation of PB2.

Extracellular vimentin is an attachment factor that facilitates SARS-CoV-2 entry into human endothelial cells

Razie Amraei et al.

Summary: Vimentin (VIM) is identified as an important attachment factor for SARS-CoV-2 on human endothelial cells. Exogenous VIM binds to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and facilitates viral infection. Co-expression of VIM increases SARS-CoV-2 entry in HEK-293 cells, while knockdown of VIM reduces virus infection in human endothelial cells. In addition, binding of VIM with the CR3022 antibody inhibits viral entry, suggesting a key role for VIM in SARS-CoV-2 infection of endothelial cells.

SRSF3 facilitates replication of influenza A virus via binding and promoting the transport of viral mRNA

Lingcai Zhao et al.

Summary: This study used high-throughput transcriptome data to analyze the changes in mRNA levels of host factors related to polymerase activity during influenza A virus infection. The results showed that viral infection caused down-regulation of MYH9, HNRNPU, SRSF3, and RPS24 mRNA levels. Further research confirmed the important role of SRSF3 in influenza virus replication, as it promoted virus replication and regulated viral protein expression.

Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 Potentiates SARS-CoV-2 Infection by Antagonizing Type I Interferon Induction and Its Down-Stream Signaling Pathway

Jian Chen et al.

Summary: Efficient antiviral immune responses are crucial in controlling COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2. Our study reveals that ACE2 plays a distinctive role in suppressing the IFN-I signaling pathway, thereby facilitating SARS-CoV-2 infection in human lung cells. These findings contribute to understanding the interaction between SARS-CoV-2 pathogenicity and host antiviral defenses.

Nonmuscle myosin heavy chain IIA facilitates SARS-CoV-2 infection in human pulmonary cells

Jian Chen et al.

Summary: The study identified MYH9 as an important host factor for SARS-CoV-2 infection of human pulmonary cells, mediating viral entry through endocytosis and bypassing the TMPRSS2 and CatB/L pathways. Loss of MYH9 reduces authentic SARS-CoV-2 infection in ACE2-expressing cells, suggesting it as a potential target for clinical intervention strategies in the future.
