Completion Pneumonectomy for Second Primary/Primary Lung Cancer and Local Recurrence Lung Cancer

Naofumi Miyahara et al.

Summary: The study reviewed literature on completion pneumonectomy for second primary/primary lung cancer and local recurrence lung cancer, finding good long-term survival for selected patients but significant perioperative morbidity and mortality. Further studies are needed to identify patient subgroups that benefit most from completion pneumonectomy.

Wedge Resection vs. Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Clinical Stage I Non-small Cell Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Lei Peng et al.

Summary: This study conducted a meta-analysis comparing the survival outcomes of clinical stage I NSCLC patients treated with wedge resection and SBRT. The results showed that patients treated with wedge resection had significantly better overall survival (OS) than those treated with SBRT, but no significant difference in disease-free survival (DFS) was observed. However, there may be potential publication bias among these studies.

Repeated anatomical pulmonary resection for metachronous ipsilateral second non-small cell lung cancer

Aritoshi Hattori et al.

Summary: The study investigated the surgical outcomes of repeated pulmonary resection for metachronous ipsilateral second non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Repeated anatomical resection was defined as a surgery for secondary NSCLC after primary major lung resection. The 3-year overall survival rate after metachronous surgery for ipsilateral second NSCLC was 80.1%, with reanatomical resection being a significant predictor of postoperative severe morbidity.

Second pulmonary resection for a second primary lung cancer: analysis of morbidity and survival

Walid Abid et al.

Summary: This study evaluated morbidity and survival of patients undergoing surgical resection for a second primary non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Results showed that morbidity of the second surgery was not higher than the first surgery, and new tumors were usually diagnosed at an early stage.

Survival outcomes for surgical resection versus CT-guided percutaneous ablation for stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC): a systematic review and meta-analysis

Michael Vinchill Chan et al.

Summary: Surgical resection remains the optimal choice for stage 1 non-small cell lung cancer. However, for non-surgical patients with stage 1A, ablation therapy shows promising outcomes in terms of disease-free survival, cancer-specific survival, and overall survival.

Surgical outcomes of ipsilateral metachronous second primary lung cancer

Seijiro Sato et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively reviewed clinical data from 61 patients who underwent pulmonary resection for ipsilateral MSPLC and found that postoperative complications existed, but did not differ significantly based on the combination of surgeries. There were no differences in the 5-year survival and recurrence rates between patients who underwent anatomic resection and wedge resection.

Middle lobe preservation and fixation after right upper and lower lobectomy for synchronous lung cancer

Hua Jiang et al.

Summary: The study included three patients with lung cancers in the right upper and lower lobe, who underwent simultaneous lobectomy with preservation of the middle lobe. Suturing and fixing the remaining middle lobe to the intercostal muscle of the incision effectively prevented postoperative lobe torsion, making it a safe and effective strategy for eligible patients.
