KDIGO 2021 CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINE FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF GLOMERULAR DISEASES

Brad H. Rovin et al.

Summary: The KDIGO 2021 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Glomerular Diseases aims to assist clinicians caring for individuals with glomerular disease by providing actionable recommendations and valuable infographics. It also proposes research recommendations for areas where there are gaps in knowledge, targeting a broad audience of clinicians treating glomerular disease. The guideline development process followed an explicit evidence review and the treatment approaches are based on systematic reviews, evidence synthesis, and the GRADE approach.

Paediatric Nephrology in Africa

Christopher Esezobor et al.

Summary: The unique aspects of pediatric nephrology in Africa include an increase in acute kidney injury due to sepsis, a higher prevalence of steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome, and the impact of geography and demographics on the spectrum of kidney diseases. Limited access to medical care due to poor living conditions and lack of healthcare resources often results in late presentation for children with kidney diseases in Africa.

Treatment Outcomes of Pediatric Nephrotic Syndrome Patients Treated in Ayder Comprehensive Specialized and Mekelle General Hospitals, Ethiopia

Yainu Welegerinna et al.

Summary: This study assessed treatment outcomes of pediatric nephrotic syndrome patients in Ayder Specialized Comprehensive and Mekelle General Hospitals, finding that most patients achieved remission within 4 weeks of steroid therapy, but encountered higher relapse rates and steroid-related toxicities. Early age at diagnosis, hematuria, infection, reduced GFR, and remission time were identified as independent predictors of frequent relapsing/steroid-dependent nephrotic disease course.
