Patient profile and outcomes associated with follow-up in specialty vs. primary care in heart failure

Felix Lindberg et al.

Summary: This study investigates the factors influencing follow-up referral decisions and their prognostic implications in patients with heart failure. The findings suggest that optimized HF care and more severe HF are key predictors of follow-up in specialty care, while older age, female sex, lower income and educational level, higher EF, and higher comorbidity burden are associated with a lower likelihood of specialty care follow-up. Furthermore, referral to specialty care is associated with a lower risk of all-cause and cardiovascular death, but not HF hospitalization.

Heart failure: an update from the last years and a look at the near future

Mauro Riccardi et al.

Summary: In recent years, significant progress has been made in the management of heart failure, including the use of quadruple therapy and sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors to reduce mortality and hospitalization in HF patients regardless of ejection fraction. There have also been advances in the treatment of decompensated HF.

Impact analysis of heart failure across European countries: an ESC-HFA position paper

Giuseppe M. C. Rosano et al.

Summary: Heart failure (HF) is a long-term clinical syndrome with increasing prevalence and significant healthcare costs. Despite advances in therapy, mortality and morbidity remain high and quality of life poor. Epidemiological data on HF in European countries show geographical variations, highlighting the need for further research and policy development.
