Concerning pion parton distributions

Z. -F. Cui et al.

Summary: The analysis of the pion valence-quark distribution function predicts that its behavior at x approximately equal to 1 follows the model of (1 - x)(β(σ)), taking into account the pion wave function prescribed by QCD. However, the empirical status of this behavior remains uncertain due to disagreements in fitting existing data. Further experimental data is needed to reach a final conclusion.

Light mesons with one dynamical gluon on the light front

Jiangshan Lan et al.

Summary: This article obtains the mass spectroscopy of light mesons from the light-front quantum chromodynamics (QCD) Hamiltonian, determined for their constituent quark-antiquark and quark-antiquark-gluon Fock components, together with a three-dimensional confinement. The eigenvectors of the light-front effective Hamiltonian provide a good quality description of the pion electromagnetic form factor, decay constant, and the valence quark distribution functions following QCD scale evolution.

Accessing the Pion 3D Structure at US and China Electron-Ion Colliders

Jose Manuel Morgado Chavez et al.

Summary: This study presents the first systematic feasibility analysis of accessing the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of the pion at an electron-ion collider using deeply virtual Compton scattering. The interference between quarks and gluons is found to be destructive, leading to modulation of the expected event rate. The event rate is maximized when the parton content is generated through radiation from valence dressed quarks. Furthermore, gluons are observed to induce a sign inversion for the beam-spin asymmetry, providing a clear signal for identifying the regime of gluon dominance.

Complementarity of experimental and lattice QCD data on pion parton distributions

P. C. Barry et al.

Summary: In this study, pion parton distribution functions were extracted through a Monte Carlo global QCD analysis of experimental data and lattice QCD data. The reduced Ioffe time pseudo-distributions significantly decreased the uncertainties on the PDFs, while the current-current correlators were limited by systematic effects associated with the lattice.

Emergence of pion parton distributions

Z-F Cui et al.

Summary: Assuming the existence of an effective charge to define the evolution scheme for parton distribution functions (DFs), this study derives strict lower and upper bounds on all Mellin moments of the valence-quark DFs of pionlike systems. By using numerical simulations of lattice-regularized quantum chromodynamics (QCD) consistent with these bounds, parameter-free predictions for pion valence, glue, and sea DFs are obtained. The study shows that the form of the valence-quark DF is consistent with predictions derived from the QCD-prescribed behavior of the pion wave function.

Pion partonic distributions in a statistical model from pion induced Drell-Yan and J/Ψ production data

Claude Bourrely et al.

Summary: This article presents a new analysis method using the statistical model to extract pion parton distribution functions (PDFs), and obtains a new set of pion PDFs through a combined fit to Drell-Yan data and J/Psi production data. This study is of great significance for better determining the gluon distribution inside the pion.

Parton physics from a heavy-quark operator product expansion: Lattice QCD calculation of the second moment of the pion distribution amplitude

William Detmold et al.

Summary: In this article, the heavy-quark operator product expansion method is numerically implemented for the first time to determine the second Mellin moment of the pion LCDA. The resulting value, obtained at a pion mass of 550 MeV and a factorization scale of 2 GeV in quenched QCD, is 0.210 +/- 0.013(stat) +/- 0.034(sys), which is compatible with previous determinations of this quantity.

NRQCD analysis of charmonium production with pion and proton beams at fixed-target energies

Chia-Yu Hsieh et al.

Summary: In this study, hadroproduction of J Iv and v(2S) at fixed-target energies was analyzed within the framework of non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD). A new determination of the color-octet long-distance matrix elements (LDMEs) was obtained using data from both pion and proton-induced processes. The contributions from qq and color-octet processes were found to be significantly enhanced at lower energies, with good agreement between pion-induced J Iv production data and NRQCD calculations using the newly obtained LDMEs. The sensitivity of pion-induced charmonium production data to the gluon density of pions was highlighted, favoring pion PDFs with relatively large gluon contents at large x values.

Global QCD Analysis of Pion Parton Distributions with Threshold Resummation

P. C. Barry et al.

Summary: In a global QCD analysis, different treatments of valence quark distribution lead to significant differences at large x values, with resummation boosting the total momentum carried by gluons to approximately 40%. The redistribution induced by resummation increases the gluon contribution to the pion mass to approximately 40 MeV.

Gluon parton distribution of the pion from lattice QCD

Zhouyou Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, the x-dependent pion gluon distribution from lattice QCD using the pseudo-PDF approach is determined for the first time. The results show that the dependence of the pion gluon parton distribution on lattice spacing and pion mass is mild across different lattice spacings and pion masses. Comparisons with other global fits are also made to validate the findings.

An analysis of parton distribution functions of the pion and the kaon with the maximum entropy input

Chengdong Han et al.

Summary: Pion and kaon parton distribution functions are derived through a global QCD analysis, with sea quarks and gluons generated from parton splitting processes. High Q(2) valence and sea quark distributions are in agreement with experimental measurements, while the asymptotic behaviors of parton distribution functions are studied for both pion and kaon at small and large x. Additionally, the first three moments of parton distributions at high Q(2) scale align with other theoretical predictions.

Regarding the Distribution of Glue in the Pion

Lei Chang et al.

Summary: Understanding the difference in the scale of emergent hadron mass in proton and pion may require mapping and comparing the distribution functions of all partons within each. The difficulty in predicting the proton's distribution functions lies in it being a three-body bound-state problem, while the pion's two-body problem allows for more accurate predictions. The alignment of theory in this area is promising, especially with experimental facilities now able to test rigorous theory predictions concerning Nambu-Goldstone bosons.

Towards the three-dimensional parton structure of the pion: Integrating transverse momentum data into global QCD analysis

N. Y. Cao et al.

Summary: This study presents a new Monte Carlo QCD analysis of pion parton distribution functions, including transverse momentum dependent pion-nucleus Drell-Yan cross sections for the first time. Sensitivity to kinematic cuts, factorization scale, and parametrization choice were assessed, with discussions on the impact of various datasets on the pion's quark and gluon distributions. This research marks a necessary step towards the simultaneous analysis of collinear and transverse momentum dependent pion distributions, leading to the determination of the pion's three-dimensional structure.
