Recent advances in pyrazolato-bridged homo- and heterometallic polynuclear platinum and palladium complexes

Shinnosuke Horiuchi et al.

Summary: Multinuclear transition metal complexes and organometallic complexes with pyrazoles and pyrazolate bridging ligands have attracted considerable attention due to their versatile structures and interesting properties. Recent advances in pyrazolato-bridged homo- and heterometallic polynuclear platinum and palladium complexes have highlighted the significance of substituent groups on the pyrazoles and pyrazolates in controlling the stereostructures and selective formation of heteropolynuclear complexes. This review focuses on the synthetic, structural, thermodynamic, electronic, and photophysical properties of Pt- and Pd-based heteropolynuclear complexes.

Dinuclear Pt(II) Complexes with Red and NIR Emission Governed by Ligand Control of the Intramolecular Pt-Pt Distance

Hea Jung Park et al.

Summary: Red and near-infrared (NIR) phosphorescent double-decker dinuclear Pt(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized for their structural and spectroscopic properties. The complexes were found to exist as racemic mixtures with different intramolecular Pt-Pt distances controlled by the electronic characteristics of the C^N ligands. The Pt-Pt distances significantly influenced the band gap energies and corresponding emission wavelengths of the complexes, suggesting a method to finely tune the phosphorescence of these Pt(II) complexes.

Rational Synthesis of an Unsymmetric Pt Complex Unit Having Two Kinds of Pyrazolate Ligands: Elucidating Steric and Electronic Effects of Pyrazolate Ligands in Pt-Ag Sandwich Complexes

Shinnosuke Horiuchi et al.

Summary: In this study, a rational synthesis of an unsymmetric Pt complex with two different pyrazole ligands was successfully carried out. The unsymmetric Pt complex was used to selectively form a Z-shaped Pt2Ag2 complex, whose structures were confirmed by X-ray crystallographic and NMR analysis. It was found that the steric effect of the pyrazole ligands determined the orientation of the Pt complex units, but had little influence on the photophysical properties of the complexes. TD-DFT calculations supported the small electronic contributions of the pyrazole moieties in the Pt and Pt2Ag2 complexes. This synthetic route offers a new strategy for obtaining new types of precious metal sandwich complexes.
