Synthesis Method of Unsolvated Organic Derivatives of Metal Borohydrides

Wojciech Wegner et al.

Summary: This study presents a new, scalable, wet-chemistry single-pot method for synthesising pure unsolvated organic derivatives of metal borohydrides. The metathetic reaction in a weakly coordinating solvent was exemplified by the synthesis of [(n-C4H9)(4)N][Y(BH4)(4)] and [Ph4P][Y(BH4)(4)] systems, with the crystal structure of the latter compound being solved and described. The organic borohydride salts obtained through this new method have various applications, such as serving as precursors in the synthesis of hydrogen-rich mixed-metal borohydrides, which are promising materials for solid-state chemical storage of hydrogen.

Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Hana Storkanova et al.

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Synthesis, Polymorphism and Thermal Decomposition Process of (n-C4H9)4NRE(BH4)4 for RE = Ho, Tm and Yb

Wojciech Wegner et al.

Summary: Three novel organic derivatives of lanthanide borohydrides, n-But(4)NRE(BH4)(4) (TBAREB), RE = Ho, Tm, Yb, have been prepared using mechanochemical synthesis and purified via solvent extraction. Crystallographic studies revealed two polymorphic forms, alpha- and beta-TBAREB, adopting monoclinic and orthorhombic unit cells, respectively. Thermal decomposition of these compounds was investigated using TGA/DSC measurements, analysis of gaseous products with mass spectrometry, and analysis of solid decomposition products with PXRD.

Single-Molecule Magnets: From Mn12-ac to dysprosium metallocenes, a travel in time

Andoni Zabala-Lekuona et al.

Summary: The discovery of Single-Molecule Magnets in 1993 revolutionized the field of information storage by shrinking the size of bits to molecular levels. Despite initially operating at temperatures near absolute zero, collaboration between chemists and physicists have led to the development of materials that can operate above liquid nitrogen temperatures. The evolution of SMMs has involved the study of various routes towards high performance materials, with each route essential for understanding the quantum dynamics behind these molecules.

A reaction-coordinate perspective of magnetic relaxation

Cassidy E. Jackson et al.

Summary: Understanding and utilizing the dynamic quantum properties of metal ions is crucial for next generation technologies, with magnetic relaxation being a key physical phenomenon that is often overlooked in undergraduate coursework. By introducing a new paradigm and utilizing reaction-coordinate diagrams, researchers can better understand the mechanisms of magnetic relaxation in metal complexes and how design choices impact relaxation times. This review highlights how principles from inorganic chemistry can also be applied to the study and manipulation of magnetic relaxation, pushing the boundaries of this field.
