Trade, FDI, and CO2 emissions nexus in Latin America: the spatial analysis in testing the pollution haven and the EKC hypotheses

Haider Mahmood

Summary: This study investigates the emissions in Latin American countries and validates the existence of the environmental Kuznets curve. It finds that economic growth in Latin America has environmental consequences, with exports and imports positively impacting CO2 emissions while foreign direct investment has an insignificant effect. The study recommends focusing on exports, financial, and economic activities for a sustainable environment.

Energy consumption, pollution haven hypothesis, and Environmental Kuznets Curve: Examining the environment-economy link in belt and road initiative countries

Wenqing Li et al.

Summary: This paper examines the relationship between the environment and the economy in 89 Belt and Road Initiative countries and tests the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis and the pollution haven hypothesis. The results show an inverse U-shaped relationship between environmental degradation and economic growth. Foreign direct investment generally has a positive impact on environmental quality, but region-specific results vary.

Summary: This study examines the temporal and spatial correlation of renewable energy consumption (REC) and investigates its determinants in sub-Saharan African countries. The findings indicate a spatial agglomeration phenomenon in REC, and the gross domestic product per capita and quality of governance level have significant effects on REC.

Nexus between green technology innovation, green financing, and CO2 emissions in the G7 countries: The moderating role of social globalisation

Arshian Sharif et al.

Summary: This study examines the importance of green technology innovation and green financing in achieving sustainable environmental development. The findings demonstrate that green technology innovation and green financing have a significant negative impact on CO2 emissions. Additionally, social globalization moderates the relationship between CO2 emissions and GDP positively, while negatively influencing the relationship between green financing, green technology innovation, and CO2 emissions.

Summary: The study examined the relationship between environmental degradation and economic growth in African countries, finding that the Environmental Kuznets Curve holds for the overall sample, but varies in different countries due to heterogeneity. The research also revealed significant direct and spillover effects in the Co2-growth nexus across countries.

Revisiting the environmental Kuznets curve in China: A spatial dynamic panel data approach

Summary: This paper examines the relationship between air pollution and economic growth in China, revealing an inverted U-shaped environmental Kuznets curve. The shape of the EKC is supported by empirical evidence and remains robust when cities are grouped by income level, region, and secondary industry, but it is sensitive to the model specification of dynamic and spatial features.

Income Heterogeneity and the Environmental Kuznets Curve Turning Points: Evidence from Africa

Mark Awe Tachega et al.

Summary: The study confirmed the existence of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis in low-income, lower-middle-income, and upper-middle-income economies. However, there was no evidence of EKC in the full African and high-income panels. The turning points in the income groups were very low, indicating that Africa may trigger EKC at lower income levels. Agriculture was positively correlated with CO2 emissions in high-income economies, while having a mitigating effect in lower-middle-income, low-income economies, and the overall sample. Renewable energy showed a negative correlation with emissions in Africa and high-income economies, with non-renewable energy exerting a positive effect on emissions in all income groups except low-income economies.
