Heat transfer with kinetic phase transition in geomaterials

Zhiqiang Liu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the heat transfer process in rocks with phase transition, establishing a model that considers the kinetic feature of phase transition and conducting calibration and validation. It was found that when the kinetic rate coefficient is high enough, the temperature plateau approaches the melting point, and the model reduces to the equilibrium model.

Evaluation and re-understanding of the global natural gas hydrate resources

Xiong-Qi Pang et al.

Summary: Natural gas hydrate (NGH) has been considered as an alternative to conventional oil and gas resources for future energy supply. However, historical resource estimates show a downward trend and future projected resource value is only about 10% of total natural gas resource. With technical challenges, high cost, and lack of competitive advantages, it is unlikely that NGH will be the major energy source in the future.

Near-wellbore fracture initiation and propagation induced by drilling fluid invasion during solid fluidization mining of submarine nature gas hydrate sediments

Hai-Yan Zhu et al.

Summary: The study used a combination of discrete element method and computational fluid dynamics to analyze wellbore instability caused by drilling fluid invasion into gas hydrate formations. Results indicated that in-situ stresses and overpressure directly impact drilling fluid invasion behavior. Lower hydrate saturation leads to easier formation of fluid flow channels and lower breakdown pressure, while higher hydrate saturation increases breakdown pressure, suggesting hydrates enhance mechanical properties of the formation.
