Summary: In this study, sulfur powder is transformed into sulfur quantum dots (SQDs) using sodium hypochlorite as the etching agent. The effect of reaction time on the dynamics, photoluminescence, and size changes of SQDs is investigated. It is found that precise control of reaction time allows for tuning of SQDs' color and size, and a distinctive structure is observed. The study also reveals that both core size and surface oxidizing sulfur species contribute to the photoluminescence properties of SQDs.
