Confining Water Nanotubes in a Cu10O13-Based Metal-Organic Framework for Propylene/Propane Separation with Record-High Selectivity

Qiubing Dong et al.

Summary: Researchers reported a continuous water nanotube confined in a Cu(10)O(13)(-) based metal-organic framework (MOF) that can selectively adsorb C3H6 over C3H8 with a record-high selectivity of 1570 among all the porous materials. The high selectivity is attributed to the initial expansion and subsequent contraction of the confined water nanotubes caused by C3H6 adsorption rather than C3H8. The water nanotubes can be easily recovered by soaking the MOF in water, ensuring long-term use.

Anion Regulates scu Topological Porous Coordination Polymers into the Acetylene Trap

Huijie Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes an anion-planting strategy to regulate the porous coordination polymers for efficient separation and adsorption of acetylene. By introducing specific anions and ligands, porous polymers with different window apertures were constructed, and a structure with suitable matching distance was chosen to achieve high separation and adsorption of acetylene. This molecular insight and strategy offer a possibility for developing advanced adsorbents.

Double-Walled Zn36@Zn104 Multicomponent Senary Metal-Organic Polyhedral Framework and Its Isoreticular Evolution

Zhiyong Lu et al.

Summary: Metal-organic polyhedral frameworks are popular for gas storage and separation due to their large voids with windows that trap guest molecules. Introducing multivariant functionalities can enhance their performance for specific targets. A new double-walled Zn-36@Zn-104 metal-organic polyhedral framework with five types of topologically distinct SBUs has been reported, providing new insight into the controllability of SBUs.

Orthogonal-array dynamic molecular sieving of propylene/propane mixtures

Heng Zeng et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are known for their precise control of structures and functions on a molecular level, but designing local flexibility in the MOF framework for dynamic molecular sieving remains challenging. A newly reported MOF material, JNU-3a, features one-dimension channels with embedded molecular pockets that can selectively adsorb propylene and propane under different pressures, showcasing the potential of dynamic molecular sieving.

The chemistry and applications of flexible porous coordination polymers

Nibedita Behera et al.

Summary: Flexible porous coordination polymers (PCPs) have made significant progress since the late 1990s, with various architectures recognized and promising applications identified. The unique ability of PCPs to respond to external stimuli and adjust to new environments in a tuneable fashion is a key attribute that sets them apart from other porous solids. However, accurately building these structures with the required functions remains a new challenge.
