Three-Dimensional Ray-Based Tomographic Approach for Contactless GPR Imaging

Gianluca Gennarelli et al.

Summary: This article proposes a 3-D imaging approach for contactless ground penetrating radar surveys. The imaging problem is solved using the singular value decomposition tool in the context of linear inverse scattering. A ray-based model accounting for electromagnetic signal propagation in an inhomogeneous medium is developed to accurately evaluate the kernel of the integral equation. The spatial resolution performance is analyzed based on theoretical concepts of diffraction tomography and the singular value decomposition of the scattering operator.

Hyperfine Structure of Regolith Unveiled by Chang'E-5 Lunar Regolith Penetrating Radar

Yan Su et al.

Summary: This study presents the results of the Lunar Regolith Penetrating Radar (LRPR), providing insights into the fine structure of the lunar surface and the composition of the subsurface regolith. Laboratory measurements of returned samples further allow estimation of the real part of relative permittivity and the loss tangent of the Moon.

Shallow Regolith Structure and Obstructions Detected by Lunar Regolith Penetrating Radar at Chang'E-5 Drilling Site

Jianqing Feng et al.

Summary: This study uses Lunar Regolith Penetrating Radar (LRPR) observations to reconstruct the subsurface structure of the regolith under the Chang'E-5 lander. It identifies irregular, high-density zones in the regolith, speculates that rock fragments from these zones obstructed the drilling process, leading to an early termination. The study models the LRPR echoes using a finite-difference time-domain method to verify their inference of the regolith structure.

Fast 3-D Image Reconstruction on Nonregular UWB Sparse MIMO Planar Array Using Scaling Techniques

Kai Tan et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel multistatic scaling algorithm for fast 3-D imaging with UWB MIMO planar array architecture, which effectively addresses weaknesses of current imaging techniques. The algorithm corrects key range cell migration in MIMO data set and has a lower computation complexity compared to other techniques. Experimental results with synthetic and practical data demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm in obtaining high-quality images in less time.
