Self-Assembly of Double-Helical Metallopolymers

Jake L. Greenfield et al.

Summary: Metal-containing polymers, or metallopolymers, have diverse applications in various fields. The self-assembly of metal-templated subcomponents allows the formation of complex structures. The control of parameters in metallopolymers can influence their growth behavior and properties, potentially meeting specific application requirements.

Elucidation of the key role of Pt-Pt interactions in the directional self-assembly of platinum(II) complexes

Xiaoyan Zheng et al.

Summary: Here, we explore the role of Pt-Pt interactions in self-assembly using an amphiphilic Pt(II) complex, PtB. Our findings reveal that in aqueous solution, the self-assembly mechanism of PtB follows a nucleation-free isodesmic model, while in acetone-water solution, a cooperative growth is observed. Quantum mechanics calculations and molecular dynamics simulations suggest that the directional Pt...Pt interaction plays a crucial role in determining the formation of ordered structures.

Dynamics and healing behavior of metallosupramolecular polymers

Laura N. Neumann et al.

Summary: It has been found that studying diffusion across healed interfaces and correlating contact time, diffusion depth, and mechanical properties is possible when two metallosupramolecular polymers assembled with different lanthanoid salts are mended. Healing actual defects requires an interphase thickness in excess of 100 nm.

Dynamic metallopolymer networks: a protocol to quantify Pt(ii)MIDLINE HORIZONTAL ELLIPSISPt(ii) and π-π stacking interactions

Xiandeng Qiu et al.

Summary: Platinum(ii)-containing associative metallopolymers can self-assemble into dynamic gel networks through Pt(ii) and/or pi-pi stacking interactions. The stress relaxation can be quantified by the ratio of tau(s)/tau(0) through the motion of unentangled polystyrenes and the sticker dissociation of platinum(ii) units.

Synthesis and hierarchical self-assembly of luminescent platinum(ii)-containing telechelic metallopolymers

Xiandeng Qiu et al.

Summary: Telechelic polymers with central polymer chain and two metal complex terminals were successfully synthesized with planar platinum(ii) complexes. These metallopolymers exhibit metal-metal-to-ligand charge-transfer or excimeric phosphorescence emissions, and can self-assemble into flowerlike micelles and vesicle-like structures in specific solvent mixtures. The unconventional self-assembly behaviors are attributed to strong platinum(ii) and/or pi-pi stacking interactions. This study presents a new approach to exploring functional metallopolymer materials.
