Quantum critical points and the sign problem

R. Mondaini et al.

Summary: The sign problem is a fundamental limitation in simulations of strongly correlated matter. In this study, the quantitive connection between the sign problem in determinant quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) and quantum critical behavior is demonstrated through simulations of several well-understood models. A reinterpretation of the low average sign in the Hubbard model is proposed, relating it to the onset of pseudogap behavior and exotic superconductivity.

Thermalization dynamics of a gauge theory on a quantum simulator

Zhao-Yu Zhou et al.

Summary: Gauge theories are the foundation of modern physics, and their applications range from elementary particle physics to condensed matter systems. Researchers have performed quantum simulations of a U(1) symmetric gauge field theory and demonstrated emergent irreversible behavior. Their work may enable the investigation of elusive phenomena and pave the way for simulating more complex gauge theories on quantum synthetic matter devices.

Enhancing Disorder-Free Localization through Dynamically Emergent Local Symmetries

Jad C. Halimeh et al.

Summary: Disorder-free localization is a recently discovered nonergodic phenomenon that prevents thermalization in quantum many-body systems. It has been shown that disorder-free localization can be enhanced by adding linear terms in the gauge-symmetry generator, and this enhancement is achieved through the quantum Zeno effect.

Quantum phases of two-dimensional Z2 gauge theory coupled to single-component fermion matter

Umberto Borla et al.

Summary: We investigate the quantum phase diagram of Wegner's theory of discrete Ising gauge fields interacting with U(1) symmetric fermion matter. We develop a local transformation to map the lattice gauge theory onto a model of Z(2) gauge-invariant spin 1/2 degrees of freedom. Numerical calculations and exact diagonalization results support our understanding of different limits of the model. The study reveals the existence of topologically ordered phases and fracton phenomenology in the system.

Matrix-Model Simulations Using Quantum Computing, Deep Learning, and Lattice Monte Carlo

Enrico Rinaldi et al.

Summary: Matrix quantum mechanics plays crucial roles in theoretical physics, such as providing a holographic description of quantum black holes and supporting the study of complex high-dimensional supergravity theories. Quantum computing and deep learning could potentially become valuable tools for understanding the dynamics of matrix quantum mechanics and could potentially lead to new discoveries in quantum gravity research.

Rotational Resonances and Regge-like Trajectories in Lightly Doped Antiferromagnets

A. Bohrdt et al.

Summary: This study introduces a rotational variant of ARPES spectroscopy and identifies long-lived rotational resonances for individual dopants, which are interpreted as direct indicators of the microscopic structure of spinon-chargon bound states. By establishing a linear dependence of rotational energy on superexchange coupling, researchers explore emergent universal features of strongly correlated electron systems.

Confinement and Mott Transitions of Dynamical Charges in One-Dimensional Lattice Gauge Theories

Matjaz Kebric et al.

Summary: The article discusses the relationship between confinement and translational symmetry breaking in 1D Z(2) lattice gauge theories, showing an exact mapping of Luttinger parameters and predicting the formation of confined mesons in a Mott-insulating state. The metallic state is characterized by hidden off-diagonal quasi-long-range order, offering new insights into the physics of confinement of dynamical charges and potential experimental verification in Rydberg-dressed quantum gases in optical lattices.

Gauging the Kitaev chain

Umberto Borla et al.

Summary: The study reveals the existence of fermion parity symmetry in the Kitaev chain, with gauge transformation leading to a topological order distinct from the Kitaev chain. The deconfined phase can remain stable even in the presence of vortices. Additionally, a comprehensive study of a model interpolating between ordinary and gauged Kitaev chains showcases rich quantum criticality.
