Metabolic engineering of Rhodotorula toruloides IFO0880 improves C16 and C18 fatty alcohol production from synthetic media

J. Carl Schultz et al.

Summary: This study explored metabolic engineering approaches to improve the production of fatty alcohols in the oleaginous yeast Rhodotorula toruloides. Deletion of LRO1 or deletion of DGA1 combined with overexpression of ACC1 and ACL1 significantly increased the fatty alcohol production. The deletion of LRO1 surprisingly increased both lipid and fatty alcohol production.

Production of Theasinensin A Using Laccase as Antioxidant and Antiaging Agent

Jinkyung Choi et al.

Summary: Epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate (EGCG), a monomeric catechin compound in green tea, can be oxidized to EGCG dimers through radical oxidative reaction. The dimers, including theacitrin, dehydrotheasinensin, and theasinensin, were characterized using LC/MS/MS. Heat treatment resulted in the formation of theasinensin A (TSA) as the major dimer product. Purified TSA showed potential as an antioxidant and anti-aging agent.
