Forging a Cage into a Chain: Stepwise Transformation of P4 by Silylenes to a Si3P4 Motif

Xiaofei Sun et al.

Summary: By stepwise activation of white phosphorus using two different silylene precursors, we have discovered a route to access a seven-membered chain structure that incorporates three silicon and four phosphorus atoms. The isolation and analysis of stable analogues of the reactive intermediates provide insights into the synthesis, stability and structural features of the chain species.

Photochemically Activated Dimagnesium(I) Compounds: Reagents for the Reduction and Selective C-H Bond Activation of Inert Arenes

Dafydd D. L. Jones et al.

Summary: The study reported the photochemical activation of dimagnesium(I) compounds with inert arenes, leading to high yielding, regioselective reactions. Computational studies suggested that all reactions proceed via photochemically generated magnesium(I) radicals, which reduce the arene substrate before C-H or C-F bond activation processes occur.

Niklas Reinfandt et al.

Summary: The study successfully establishes a more complex and comprehensive research method on the reduction chemistry of lanthanides by using a variety of new reducing agents, resulting in multiple new compounds. Activation of P-4 was achieved, leading to the selective expansion of P-5 rings and successful activation of P-4 in lanthanide element polypnictide complexes. Additionally, the first systematic femtosecond (fs)-spectroscopy investigations of d/f-polypnictides were presented, showcasing the advantages of accessing a broader series of lanthanide compounds.

Summary: The functionalization of pentaphosphaferrocene with cationic group 13-17 electrophiles is a general synthetic strategy towards diverse P-E bond formation. The reaction products include dinuclear or mononuclear complexes of hetero-bis-pentaphosphole or hetero-pentaphosphole ligands, with X-ray crystallographic characterization revealing twisted conformations of the cyclo-P5R ligands in the compounds. DFT calculations confirm the aromatic character of the pentaphosphole ligands and shed light on the bonding situation in these compounds.
