Pore-scale numerical study of intrinsic permeability for fluid flow through asymmetric ceramic microfiltration membranes

Shuang Song et al.

Summary: The study developed a numerical model to simulate fluid flow through an asymmetric ceramic MF membrane and found that pore size and porosity are key parameters determining membrane permeability. By deriving a new intrinsic permeability function, the model can accurately predict membrane permeability.

Near miscible relative permeability curves in layered porous media-investigations via diffuse interface Lattice Boltzmann method

Shahab Ghasemi et al.

Summary: In this study, the relative permeability of immiscible multi-phase flow in Layered 2D porous media was investigated using the diffuse interface Lattice Boltzmann model. The model was validated with static and dynamic analytical solutions. Different types of porous media and various conditions were examined to study the permeability curves.

Pore-scale characterization of CO2 front progress through a porous medium using a free energy model based on Phase-Field Lattice Boltzmann Method

Bijan Moradi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the pore-scale simulation of CO2 front progression in a porous medium using a free energy model based on the phase-field lattice Boltzmann method. The results show that the pattern of the front strongly depends on the interaction between viscous and capillary forces. Different force dominance leads to different front patterns in the system. Increasing the capillary number reduces the invading fluid saturation and sweep efficiency due to intensifying the viscous fingering regime. However, a uniform pattern is observed when the mobility ratio is high, while front evolution is facilitated in the opposite case.

Lattice kinetic model of 3D flow characterization in core samples via synchrotron X-ray micro-tomography

Aliakbar Kakouie et al.

Summary: Flow characterization in underground surveys using accurate and robust numerical engine is essential for optimized performance. By constructing a precise three-dimensional rock model and simulating fluid flow with the novel CSKM model combined with Fourier series, more accurate results consistent with porous-media-related physical phenomena were obtained compared to previous research.

Stochastic Effects of 2D Random Arrays of Cylinders on Rarefied Gas Permeability Using the Lattice Boltzmann Method

Michel Ho et al.

Summary: A statistical study was conducted on rarefied gas flow through micro-porous media using a large set of 2D random arrays of circular cylinders. Results indicate that the randomness of porous media may lead to uncertainty in permeability calculation, emphasizing the sensitivity of the model to the accurate definition of Kn.

Dynamic behavior investigation of capillary rising at various dominant forces using free energy lattice Boltzmann method

Bijan Moradi et al.

Summary: The Free Energy Lattice Boltzmann Method was developed to analyze the capillary rise process, showing numerical results closer to experimental records than theoretical models. Different regimes including the inertial regime, viscous regime, and gravity-viscous regime were identified, with a transitional regime at the beginning of the process leading to a constant capillary rise height. Sensitivity analysis on dominant forces was performed for a better understanding of the phenomenon.

Three-dimensional lattice Boltzmann simulation of the permeability of soil-rock mixtures and comparison with other prediction models

Lei Jin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of rock content, rock size, and relative density on the permeability of soil-rock mixtures using the discrete element method and lattice Boltzmann method. The results show that the permeability of soil-rock mixtures increases with rock content and decreases with relative density. Additionally, the permeability values obtained with the LBM are lower than those predicted by some theoretical models, but closer to those from the Daigle model.
