Separation and identification of collagen peptides derived from enzymatic hydrolysate of Salmo salar skin and their anti-inflammatory activity in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 inflammatory model

Hui Liu et al.

Summary: Inflammation is a major risk for chronic diseases, and the long-term use of anti-inflammatory drugs can lead to adverse events. Therefore, it is important to develop alternative and safe dietary supplements from natural products to combat inflammation. This study identified and separated novel anti-inflammatory peptides from the hydrolysate of Salmo salar skin using ultrafiltration and column chromatography. These peptides showed high stability against digestion and had abundant frequencies in collagen, indicating their potential as functional food to prevent inflammation.

Novel therapeutic heterocycles as selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors and anti-cancer agents: Synthesis, in vitro bioassay screenings, and molecular docking studies

Musa El-Barghouthi et al.

Summary: A unique class of 1,5-disubstituted tetrazoles were designed and synthesized, showing enhanced inhibition potency towards COX-2 enzyme. Tetrazole 4 exhibited the highest inhibition potency for both COX-2 and COX-1 enzymes while displaying selectivity for COX-2. Among the compounds studied, only azole 5 showed anti-cancer activity against human immortalized myelogenous leukemia. Overall, the investigated compounds showed low cytotoxicity for HDFa cell lines.

Production and identification of peptides with activity promoting osteoblast proliferation from meat dregs of Pinctada martensii

Yufeng Tian et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that P. martensii meat could be a promising material for producing functional food additives with osteogenic activity. The fraction ZP2 derived from P. martensii meat dregs showed better activity in promoting osteoblast proliferation, with a cell proliferation increase of 43.95 +/- 0.03% after enzymolysis and purification. The identified peptides from the ZP2 fraction hold potential for further synthesis of peptides that promote high proliferation activity of osteocytes.
