Pinpointing the origin of the increased driving voltage during prolonged operation in a phosphorescent OLED based on an exciplex host

Markus Regnat et al.

Summary: We studied the reduced power efficiency in a red phosphorescent OLED with an exciplex host after prolonged operation. The increase in driving voltage was found to be the sole cause for the reduction in power efficiency, while the radiant flux remained constant. By using multiple measurement methods, we were able to develop an electrical model that accurately described the driving voltage increase. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis revealed that the trap density and mobility of the hole transporting layer had the largest impact on the driving voltage increase.

Color-Stable, Efficient, and Bright Blue Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cell Using Ionic Exciplex Host

Rubing Bai et al.

Summary: In this study, an ionic exciplex host was utilized to fabricate color-stable, efficient, and bright blue light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs), showing promising carrier injection, charge-transport, and energy transfer properties. The developed cationic donor and acceptor molecules formed the exciplex host, allowing for efficient energy transfer to a blue-emitting iridium complex dopant. Host-guest LECs using this doped film achieved high efficiency and brightness, representing the most efficient and bright blue LECs reported to date.
